Background

The Corporate Banking Luxembourg (“CB Lux”) team works in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role offers variety and a steep learning curve, covering the evolving Infrastructure, Renewables, and Energy Transition markets.

The CB Lux team operates across sectors including Transport assets (Ports, Rail, Airports), Transmission Networks, District Heating, Digital, Midstream, and Energy Services. The team covers a significant portion of the Core and Core+ Infrastructure markets, including Renewables platforms and Asset Level Project Financings in Wind, Solar, offshore, and onshore projects, as well as the expanding Energy Transition sector.

Our league table performance has improved recently across Europe, and CB Europe has a notable market presence given our scale and sector focus. We are one of the most active North American banks in the European capital deployment market.

The CB team was established in July 2020. Since then, the loan book has grown rapidly, making it necessary to hire a portfolio manager.

Purpose of Job

The Director will utilize analytical and research skills to monitor and maintain the loan portfolio booked in CIBC Luxembourg. They will ensure high standards in account management and support the day-to-day operations of the Corporate Banking team.

Main Objectives
  • Based in Luxembourg, the Director is primarily responsible for managing the loan portfolio for clients in Infrastructure, Renewables, and Energy Transition sectors.
  • Assist junior officers in monitoring the credit portfolio, including conducting annual reviews supported by financial, business, industry, and market analysis.
  • Monitor credit quality and exposure, stay updated on customer, industry, economic trends, and market information. Apply consistent risk rating policies across the portfolio.
Skills / Knowledge Required
  • 5-8 years of relevant experience; MBA, CFA, or similar professional qualification preferred.
  • High professionalism, ethics, and reputation. Open communication and teamwork are essential.
  • Strong analytical skills, with extensive experience analyzing financial statements to assess credit risk. Experience in structuring finance solutions, including commodity, interest rate, and credit derivatives, especially for project finance and infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of credit standards and structured finance terms, working closely with debt capital markets and credit approval processes to successfully close financings and manage syndications.
  • Deep knowledge of Infrastructure, Midstream, Renewables, and Energy Transition sectors, including market factors affecting access to equity and debt markets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple demands and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to mentor junior officers and develop team capabilities.
