We are seeking an Automation & Process Control Specialist, reporting directly to the Digital Plants Section Head, to join our Engineering division based in Rome, Italy.

About the Job

You will work within the Digital Plants Section, responsible mainly for:

• Detailed design, testing, and commissioning of regulatory process control strategies,
• Design, testing, and commissioning of complex logics and sequences,
• Management of supply and commissioning of Advanced Process Control (Multivariable) and Optimization systems,
• Management of supply and commissioning of Operator Training Simulator (OTS) systems,
• Management of supply and commissioning of Digital Application software (. 3D OTS/Augmented Reality, Digital Twin, IIoT, MES).

You will be involved in various project phases: FEED, EPC, and Revamping Projects.

The role includes but is not limited to:

• Studying process operation and control requirements to define suitable control strategies for DCS implementation,
• Defining logics/sequences for DCS/ESD,
• Developing advanced process control strategies based on operational and optimization targets,
• Providing technical assistance during DCS/ESD configuration, testing, and vendor workshops,
• Preparing technical specifications and requisitions for control systems and digital applications in coordination with other disciplines,
• Conducting bid evaluations to ensure compliance with specifications,
• Communicating effectively with vendors and clients,
• Coordinating with other engineering disciplines and managing interfaces,
• Supervising and coordinating activities of engineering teams,
• Adhering to project timelines and budgets,
• Reporting on activities to project leaders,
• Meeting quality and HSE objectives,
• Interfacing with other discipline engineers and project support functions,
• Mentoring junior engineers.

You will have opportunities for business trips, technical meetings, vendor visits, and site support activities, including erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up.

About You

We’d love to hear from you if you meet these essential requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in detailed engineering and design for refinery, gas, power, renewables, or infrastructure projects.
• Chemical Engineering Degree (preferred).
• Knowledge of process units operation, with 2-3 years of experience in process design or similar.
• Understanding of Instrumentation and Automation (DCS/ESD) principles.
• Knowledge of safety interlocks, machinery, and equipment controls and logics.
• Ability to deliver work on time with high quality.
• Good communication skills and team spirit.
• Availability for international mobility for short or long-term assignments.

Nice to have:

• Experience in Advanced Process Control, Operator Training Simulator, MES, Digital Twin, process modeling, and simulation.
• Knowledge of DCS configuration and vendor-specific blocks.
• Understanding of automation systems architecture and hardware design.
• Experience with site operations, revamping, or upgrades.
