Description
Amazon, founded in 1995, aims to be the world's most customer-centric company, offering a vast selection of products online. We are seeking a Design and Construction Manager to be a key part of our Operations team, responsible for managing the planning, design, and construction of new Amazon Delivery Stations (DS), including extensions of existing facilities and new sites. This role involves developing and implementing the EU network infrastructure, analyzing facility scenarios, and supporting standardization of technical and facility processes.
This position combines construction engineering, planning, project management, facilities management, and contract management. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the planning, design, and project control of new and existing facilities.
The role is based in Italy, with frequent travel within Italy and the EU as required.
Responsibilities
- Oversee construction engineering, planning, and design for DS and expansion projects.
- Support projects related to new fulfillment network buildings and capacity enhancements in Italy DSs.
- Conduct construction engineering design on new and remodel projects.
- Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements, equipment, and services.
- Provide technical direction in engineering design, AutoCAD, building layouts, and material specifications.
- Survey facilities, develop procedures for facility audits, and recommend solutions for infrastructure, safety, and security issues.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors, ensuring they are fit for purpose, cost-effective, and include appropriate SLAs.
- Manage site activities, coordinate planning, and oversee subcontractors.
- Participate in due diligence for new opportunities.
- Coach and guide project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure contracted resources meet quality and timeline targets, addressing under-performance.
- Audit contractors for skills and competence.
- Inform contractors of resource or work demand changes.
- Establish information systems for scheduling and recording work.
- Support and motivate contractors to improve performance.
- Mentor new team members on best practices.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent Amazon internal experience.
- Experience in project/portfolio management from design through operation.
- Proven ability to lead and manage teams.
- Fluency in Italian and English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
- Effective communication skills with diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of additional languages such as French, German, Polish, Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, or Zulu is a plus.
