Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Data Scientist who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Naples or Pistoia.

Mission

In this role, you’ll have the chance to apply data science methods and analytics to real-world business situations across various industries. Successful candidates are curious, proactive builders who are focused, decisive, and communicative.

Accountabilities

Technical

• Programming languages (e.g., Matlab, R, Python, SAS, Scala, Octave)
• Knowledge of C / C++, Java
• Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Alterix, Tableau, Meridian, Qlik, PowerBI)
• Ability to select appropriate algorithms and develop models
• Writing high-quality code
• Knowledge of Big Data frameworks like Spark and Hadoop
• Knowledge in AI and IoT
• Machine Learning techniques (e.g., supervised learning, optimization, Monte Carlo simulation, dimensionality reduction, NLP)

Digital

• Stakeholder engagement to generate hypotheses and translate data into insights
• Learning agility and innovation drive
• Digital awareness

Core Skills

• Results-oriented, proactive, collaborative, confident under pressure
• Customer-focused, creative, adaptable
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively

Required Skills/Knowledge

• PhD or Master’s in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or related fields with 2-5 years of relevant industry experience
• Strong extracurricular, professional, and leadership record
• Experience with predictive modeling, customer segmentation, network analysis, supply chain optimization, etc.
• Fluency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, R)

Languages

Fluency in Italian and English is required.
