We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager for a 12-month contract based on-site in Milan. This role supports the build-out and delivery of a hyperscale data centre on behalf of a leading global cloud infrastructure provider. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of construction execution — managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality — while coordinating across both local and international stakeholders. Bilingual fluency in Italian and English is essential to manage on-site operations and cross-border communications effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead construction project management and execution across new builds and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring delivery on scope, schedule, and budget.
- Interface directly with general contractors throughout bidding, award, execution, closeout, and punch list phases.
- Conduct competitive bid evaluations, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships.
- Develop construction project scopes and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Perform financial and risk analysis related to construction contracts and capital spend.
- Oversee capital projects designed to improve data centre resiliency and performance.
- Review and evaluate the constructability of electrical and mechanical system designs.
- Manage project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, quality control, and invoicing.
- Track and report key construction metrics and KPIs to internal stakeholders and senior management.
- Drive resolution of on-site technical issues, including root-cause failure analysis and remediation.
- Serve as a leader across construction, engineering, and operations teams — both locally and globally.
- Ensure compliance with Italian building codes, health and safety standards, and internal quality processes.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- 6+ years of equivalent construction management experience in lieu of a degree
- Proven experience managing large, complex, mission-critical construction projects involving systems
- Familiarity with the construction of power distribution / generation systems and industrial cooling infrastructure
- Strong vendor and contractor management skills, including change control and QA/QC processes
- Fluent in Italian and English (verbal and written) — required for both site and corporate communication
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of electrical systems (e.g., UPS, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers) and mechanical systems for data centre cooling
- Direct experience with data centre construction or optimization projects
- Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline construction drawings, define system-level architecture, and support performance requirements
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and justify decisions using clear data analysis
- Value engineering mindset – able to identify cost savings without compromising quality or reliability
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations in Italy
- Experience with controls, commissioning processes, and power management systems
