Amazon Data Services Italy S.R.L. is seeking a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer to operate and maintain data center infrastructure. This role requires the ability to proactively manage complex technical issues, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to safety standards. Applicants must hold relevant electrical certifications and possess strong communication skills, required for collaboration within a diverse team.

  • Apprentice / trades certified or diploma in an Electrical field with key electrical competencies (Practice & Theory) and knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)
  • Valid driving license in Italy

The Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) team is seeking engineers to deploy, operate, and maintain facilities (electrical/mechanical systems, control/fire-fighting systems, etc.) and manage related projects at our large-scale, high-density data centers.

As a member of this diverse team, you will work with exciting technology in a dynamic environment with expanding opportunities.

The role requires a highly driven, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to complex technical problems. This is a Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering role, managing infrastructure such as diesel generators, switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, fire detection systems, and building automation systems. You will report to the Data Center Engineering Operations Facilities Manager.

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS)

AWS Infrastructure Services handles the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure, supporting all AWS data centers and equipment to ensure continuous service. We work on challenging problems involving supply chain variables and are looking for talented individuals to join us.

You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. You will collaborate across AWS to uphold safety and security standards while providing extensive capacity at low costs, fostering an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.

Key job responsibilities

  • Maintain high safety standards and promote a safety culture in all operations
  • Drive continuous improvement through standardization of procedures and policies
  • Ensure 100% uptime of all customer-supporting infrastructure
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver operational excellence
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance of critical infrastructure following AWS standards
  • Monitor and supervise facilities via BMS, PMS, walkthroughs, etc.
  • Participate in build-out and retrofit projects of Data Center infrastructure
  • Respond effectively to potential customer-impacting events on electrical or mechanical infrastructure
  • Review incident reports, analyze trends, and recommend actions
  • Maintain technical documentation including method statements, SOPs, emergency procedures, and maintenance programs
  • Oversee maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events
  • Adhere to safety procedures during work
  • Work 8 hours daily, 5 days a week, with 4 days off
  • Record daily operational readings of equipment
  • Manage external vendors

Applicants should submit a detailed CV in English. Our data centers are located outside Milan in remote areas with limited public transport, so a valid driving license is required.

  • Work Schedule: This is a 100% onsite position due to the hands-on nature of the role, following standard hours (8 AM - 5 PM Milan time, Monday to Friday) with no shift work.
  • Working language: The interview process will be conducted in English, as our team is international and based in the Greater Milan area.
