  • Previous experience of import and export from a national environment
  • Good knowledge about import and export related rules and regulations
  • Previous experience from dealing with external authorities
  • Experience of working in a matrix organization
  • Experience from working in a process-oriented organisation

  • Strong ability to read and understand written and spoken English and Italian

What you'll be doing day to day

  • Take responsibility for local import and export in accordance with delegation from Company Management including securing efficient and effective internal controls and compliance to internal and external rules and regulations
  • Obtain and maintain needed import and export permissions
  • Manage and maintain daily interaction with customs authorities as well as manage and control external audits and local certification procedures
  • Continuously evaluate current ways of working, identify control weaknesses, develop solutions and implement improvements
  • Support the establishment of one common annual business plan for customs operations and deliver agreed activities
  • Ensure local competence level in accordance with responsibilities including back-up and succession planning
  • Take active part in the development of the customs operations IT landscape and provide support in the establishment of an IT / IS Strategy
  • Monitor changes in local rules and legislations and communicate events with potential business impact internally in due time
  • Implement and maintain local customs & trade solutions such as bonded warehouse & Free Trade Zones
  • Ensure timely and correct filing of pre-arrival notifications when it falls under the responsibility of the importing company
  • Ensure efficient and reliable handling of local customs related documents
  • Actively identify and manage risks related to customs operations
  • Support all the different national IKEA organization (IID, IMS, RETAIL, PURCHASING) with education program and mentoring in the customs and tax regulation field to increase awareness, cross functional capacity to work resulting in a smooth and cheaper customs flow
  • Maintain and develop relationships with National Industrial Unions, Government Agencies, Brokers regarding Customs and sanitary compliance regulation

The purpose of the job is to lead business and people together in the Customs & Shipping team. Customs Manager ensures the efficiency and compliance of the import and export activities in the country and makes sure that the work is organized in an optimal way in order to secure efficiency as well as a high level of internal control.
