A leading pharmaceutical company is seeking a Country Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Affairs Head in Italy. This role requires driving the country medical strategy while building strategic partnerships and managing the performance of the medical affairs team. The ideal candidate will have a Medical Doctor degree and extensive industry experience, demonstrating strong leadership and influencing skills.

Country Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Affairs Head - Novartis Italy

The Country Chief Scientific Officer and Medical Affairs Head is the lead country medical representative, responsible for designing and executing the near- and long-term country medical strategy, forging bold strategic partnerships with healthcare communities and governmental entities, and driving the Innovative Medicine portfolio to improve patient outcomes.

Your key responsibilities

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

• Performance & Launch Preparation: Manage and develop the overall performance of the country medical affairs team. Drive best-in-class launch preparedness and launch execution.

Healthcare Partnership & Stakeholder Management

Build bold external partnerships beyond traditional healthcare professionals. Ensure implementation science plans are in place early to shape health policy and practice guidelines. Build strong cross-functional collaboration. Represent Novartis at key external governmental, scientific, clinical, and medical forums.

Evidence Generation & Clinical Trials

Encourage earlier initiation of innovative evidence generation strategies, starting at DDP. Promote the utility of digital technologies for data generation. Ensure local studies are developed and executed based on country evidence gaps.

Leadership & Culture

Attract and develop talent, including capability building. Foster self-awareness, effective team building, and optimize medical resources. Advocate for early resourcing and a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications & Experience

• Medical Doctor (MD) preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in healthcare or life sciences industry, working with regional and local medical and access teams.
• Fluency in English and preferably Italian.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical markets and healthcare systems, with experience in pharmaceutical companies, HTA, physician associations, or healthcare consultancy.
• Strong leadership and influencing skills; ability to network and work in a matrix environment.
• Understanding of drug development, clinical studies, and scientific research, with publications desirable.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards, ethical, and legal guidelines; international experience preferred.
