What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Project Accountant, you will play a key role in managing the financial aspects of our construction projects, ensuring accuracy in job cost tracking, billing and compliance. You will work closely with project managers, our finance team and external vendors to maintain financial integrity and efficiency throughout each phase of the project.
We are looking for someone with experience in construction accounting, proficiency in industry-specific accounting software and a strong understanding of financial reporting and contract compliance. Most projects are open-book/auditable, ranging in value between $50k-$5m. Your expertise will help keep our projects financially on-track, support seamless collaboration between teams and contribute to the overall success of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management and Reporting
- Maintain/oversee accurate job cost records, ensuring all project-related financial transactions are properly recorded, well-documented and accurate.
- Track project budgets vs. actual costs, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, forecasts and cash flow analyses for project managers and leadership.
- Assist with performing month-end close procedures, including reconciliations and accruals.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Assist with processing vendor invoices, subcontractor payments and purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract terms.
- Assist with progress billings, including preparing AIA payment applications and submitting invoices to clients.
- Assist with monitoring accounts receivable, following up on outstanding invoices and collections.
Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, lien waivers and insurance requirements.
- Track and manage Notice to Owners, Notice of Non-Payment and lien releases.
- Maintain detailed records of financial transactions, change orders and payment schedules.
- Assist with audits and financial reviews related to projects.
Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with project managers, field teams and corporate accounting to ensure accurate financial reporting and project profitability.
- Provide support for project closeout activities, including reconciling accounts and finalizing documentation.
- Address inquiries from vendors, subcontractors and clients regarding financial matters.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in construction accounting or project-based financial management.
Skills
- Proficiency in construction accounting software such as Sage 300, Foundation, Procore.
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, AIA billing and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- Typical work hours: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts.
- On-site work in our Venice, FL office.
- Some travel may be required for project site visits, typically within a 75 mile radius of Venice, FL.
- This position has the potential/opportunity to grow and develop into leading the company's Accounting Department.
