The Construction Mechanical Superintendent is appointed for major projects only. He reports to the Construction Manager and is responsible for coordinating Mechanical Construction activities through the Construction Mechanical Supervisor (MES), the Construction Machinery Supervisor (MCS), the Construction Equipment Supervisor (EQS), and the Construction Piping Supervisor (PIS).
- He has direct responsibility for managing Mechanical Subcontractor(s). He will ensure their performance is monitored in terms of schedule, quality, and cost, and will coordinate recovery actions whenever deviations from schedule or specifications are detected under the guidance of the Construction Manager. He ensures the implementation of all HSE procedures and standards for his areas of responsibility.
He directly participates in HSE activities at the site as defined in the Site HSE plan and related procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages installation of all Mechanical, Piping, Insulation, Electrical, and Instrumentation equipment.
- Ensures that the performance of mechanical subcontractors is monitored in terms of schedule, quality, and cost, coordinating recovery actions when deviations are detected.
- Monitors actual works to ensure adherence to engineering design, quality standards, and project schedule.
- Supervises surveying, inspection, and testing of structures.
- Controls and approves Method Statements submitted by Subcontractors, ensuring correct application on site.
- Coordinates recovery actions for deviations from schedule or specifications under the guidance of the Construction Manager.
- Checks that equipment and manpower employed by Subcontractors are adequate and that work conforms to design documents, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Prepares non-conformity registers for each Subcontractor and coordinates resolution of non-conformities.
- Detects design errors and, where possible, rectifies them or requests the Site Engineer to make necessary changes.
- Ensures implementation of all HSE procedures and standards.
- Participates directly in site HSE activities related to his position in the HSE plan and procedures.
Knowledge & Qualifications
- University Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
Experience
- Relevant experience in the construction or modernization of industrial sector/EPC projects of large scale.
- Experience in static equipment erection.
- Experience in site assembly of Tanks and API650 standards.
- Mandatory HVAC installation experience.
- Mandatory Cooling Tower Erection experience.
- Experience with static and rotating equipment.
- At least 3 years of experience in the specific discipline.
- Experience working on the contractor side.
- Similar roles covered in the last three projects of comparable size.
