Construction Materials Testing Technician

Founded in 1989, TSi Geotechnical, Inc. is a specialized practice in geotechnical engineering, drilling and sampling, materials testing, and construction observation and documentation. We have extensive experience in a variety of projects in building design and renovation, as well as roads, bridges, water, wastewater and storm water with offices in Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, MO, Normal, IL, and Atlanta, GA.

Technicians help the professional and technical staff teams to function smoothly. They work closely with all firm members. This position requires professionalism and a willingness to work not only to meet expected deadlines but also as needed for excellence in service. The technician provides support of a highly complex and responsible nature, interfacing regularly, comfortably and confidently with various levels both inside and outside the firm. The position requires considerable discretion, initiative, and independent judgment in non-routine matters. The ability to learn the technical terminology and to be able to read documents and blueprints with a somewhat educated eye allows potential errors to be corrected. Attention to details and consistency is thus required.

The successful candidate in this position will perform the following duties:

1. Perform field density and Proctor density tests of soils.
2. Nuclear Gauge compaction testing of soil and rock.
3. Moisture content determination.
4. Basic grain size determinations (Sieve analysis).
5. Communicate with project managers and clients.

Requirements:

1. ACI (American Concrete Institute) and/or MoDOT Certifications preferred.
2. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
3. Experience in field work.
4. Must have reliable transportation and acceptable driving record.
5. Must be available for overtime and weekend work as needed.
6. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
7. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
8. Requires a basic logical understanding of computers, general hardware and software.
9. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
