Community Engagement and Outreach Specialist

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Administrative Services Manager, the Community Engagement and Outreach Specialist develops and implements public education and community engagement programs that promote the District’s services and environmental initiatives. The role focuses on increasing awareness, driving behavior change, and supporting compliance with environmental mandates by engaging residents, businesses, and schools through outreach tailored to diverse cultures and languages.

Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and evaluating educational campaigns; coordinating community events, school visits, workshops, and presentations; preparing multilingual outreach materials such as flyers, brochures, and social media content; maintaining the District’s website; representing the District at public events; building relationships with local organizations and community leaders; ensuring outreach efforts are inclusive and culturally relevant; assisting with implementing and tracking outreach requirements for SB 1383 and other mandates; maintaining records of outreach activities; supporting data collection and reporting; creating engaging social media content; collaborating on campaign strategies; providing technical assistance on environmental compliance; and other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include at least three years of experience in public education, community outreach, communications, or environmental programming, with experience working with diverse communities being highly desirable. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, environmental studies, education, public administration, or a related field is required. Possession of a valid driver’s license and a suitable driving record are also necessary.
