Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Communication & Software Engineer to join our team in Naples, Italy. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is capable of handling a variety of tasks from administrative duties to strategic planning.

Purpose of the Job:

The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for designing and developing software for TCMS (Train Control & Monitoring System) units used in high-speed rolling stock applications. This includes configuring train networks and developing control units to manage communication with wayside systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Designing train-to-wayside communication systems.
• Specifying functional and software requirements.
• Managing the software development lifecycle, including requirements, testing, and documentation.
• Designing Ethernet networks (TCP/IP, FTP, VLAN, Routing).

Mandatory Skills:

• Basic understanding of Ethernet network protocols (TCP/IP, FTP, HTTP).
• Ability to interpret functional block diagrams and utilize model-based design tools (Matlab/Simulink, Stateflow).
• Proficiency in C programming language.
• Willingness to travel for short trips.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with test scripting and scripting languages.
• Knowledge of real-time embedded systems.
• Familiarity with advanced Ethernet protocols (TRDP, MQTT, REST).
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles related to network security, intrusion detection, and firewall configuration.

Education / Qualifications:

Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.

Languages:

Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
