Chief Engineer – 56m Sailing Yacht (New Build Project)

Location: Italy (on-site during build, operational post-delivery)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Chief Engineer to join a prestigious 56m Perini Navi Sailing Yacht currently under construction in Italy. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an ambitious new build project from the ground up, with the role transitioning to a full-time onboard Chief Engineer position post-delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate on-site during the new build, coordinating with the owner’s team, shipyard, and contractors.
• Oversee all engineering development: drawing approvals, inspections, FATs, commissioning, and sea trials.
• Lead technical meetings and act as liaison between project stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Class and Flag regulations.
• Prepare the vessel for operation, including planned maintenance system (PMS), procedures, and owner supply management.
• Manage engineering systems onboard post-delivery, ensuring operational readiness.
• Provide leadership and support to the technical team throughout the project and into service.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' experience in the yachting industry.
• Prior experience on large sailing yachts is mandatory.
• Proven involvement in new builds or refit projects.
• Y3 CoC or higher certification required.
• Hands-on technical expertise and strong understanding of engineering systems.
• Fluent in English, with excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Proactive, highly organized, and able to work both independently and in a team setting.

Additional Information

• The position is based full-time in Italy during the construction phase.
• Upon delivery, the Chief Engineer will join the yacht for operational duties.
• Accommodation and travel support provided during shipyard period.
