Duties and Role:

Systems design

1. Follows standard approaches and established design patterns to create new designs for simple systems or system components
2. Identifies and resolves minor design issues
3. Identifies alternative design options and seeks guidance when deviating from established design patterns

Network design

1. Specifies the technical configurations and components required for a small network or a network segment in a more complex infrastructure
2. Follows organisational architectures and standards

Network support

1. Carries out agreed network maintenance tasks and specified operational configuration of network components
2. Establish and diagnose network problems/faults using the required troubleshooting methodology and tools
3. Uses network management software and tools to collect agreed performance and traffic statistics

Systems integration and build

1. Defines the software modules needed for an integration build and produces a build definition for each generation of the software
2. Accepts completed software modules, ensuring that they meet defined criteria
3. Produces software builds from software source code for loading onto target hardware
4. Configures the hardware and software environment as required by the system being integrated
5. Produces integration test specifications, conducts tests and records and reports on outcomes
6. Diagnoses faults and records and reports on the results of tests
7. Produces system integration reports

Requirements

Skill, Knowledge & Experience:

1. The candidate must have a currently active NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance
2. Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 2 years post-related experience, or a secondary educational qualification with 4 years post-related experience
3. At least 2 years hands-on experience with the designing, implementing, and maintaining the core network architecture for large organizations
4. Experience configuring, troubleshooting and optimizing routers, switches, firewalls, and other hardware/software networking elements
5. Relevant communication and interpersonal skills
6. Good analytical skills and problem-solving attitude
7. Formal training in encrypted voice, video and data technologies
