Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT has the mission of conducting cutting-edge research and translate innovation into methods available to the entire National scientific community. To this end, HT is opening National Facilities that will provide state-of-the-art research infrastructure for Structural Biology, Light Imaging, Genomics, Genome Engineering, and Data Handling and Analysis.

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a Bioinformatic Technician for the National Facility for Genomics.

In the context above outlined, the Bioinformatic Technician, reporting directly to the Head of the Genomics National Facility, will become part of the team of the Computational Genomics unit of the National Facility for Genomics, supporting research efforts by analyzing complex biological data, developing computational pipelines, and managing biological databases

The Computational Genomics Unit works hand-in-hand with the NF for Data Handling and Analysis facility, engaging in the development of novel bioinformatic pipelines, algorithms, and software.

This seamless interaction ensures that our computational solutions are not only cutting-edge but also tailor-made to meet the evolving needs of genomics research. The Computational Genomics unit commitment to excellence extends across all infrastructural units within the genomics NF.

By closely collaborating with each unit, the computational team strive to process sequencing data in a fast, reproducible, and standardized manner. Whether it's internal or external users, the main goal is to provide results that guarantee the highest levels of quality, reliability and reproducibility, merging precision and innovation as the main driving forces.

Key tasks and responsibilities :

Implement and maintain bioinformatics workflows (e.G., Nextflow) for processing genomic data (WGS, WES, transcriptomics, epigenomics, including single-cell), ensuring robustness and reproducibility.

Continuously optimize pipelines and computational infrastructure to improve efficiency, standardization, and quality control.

Integrate workflows with internal systems , including sample tracking infrastructure and internal databases.

Collaborate with other branches of the Genomics Facility , organizing metadata and managing newly generated data.

Support internal and external users , contributing to data analysis, resource planning, and facility operations.

Participate in training programs and technology scouting , actively supporting the development and innovation of the facility.

Job Requirements

Mandatory requirements :

Master's Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, e.G. computational sciences, physics, engineering, biology, biotechnology or a related field of science;

Knowledge on computational workflows for NGS data analysis, including robust standard operating procedures for quality assurance;

Knowledge of Nextfow or Snakemake for workflow management;

Knowledge and experience with exploratory data analysis and data visualization using Python or R;

Knowledge of reproducible research environment and version control systems;

Unix systems savvy.

Fluency in English – HT is an international research institute.

Preferred requirements

3 years of experience in a bioinformatics related field

Previous experience in a team executing analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and delivery of NGS projects.

Previous experience working with data generated by the NGS sequencing technologies (i.E. Illumina, MGI, Oxford Nanopore platforms).

High-Performance Computing (e.G. slurm etc.).

Knowledge and / or experience of long-read sequencing and single-cell analysis.

Knowledge and / or experience of relational database design and maintenance.

Experience in scripting in Python following good coding practices.

Experience with Git actions and automatic code tests.

Organizational and social skills :

Good computational skills and trouble-shooting.

Ability to interact effectively with colleagues, other teams’ members and work synergistically to drive projects forward;

Meticulous organization.

Proven communication and problem-solving skills.
