Leonardo is seeking an Autonomy Software Engineer for the Cascina Costa (VA) office in Italy. You will explore software methodologies, design reusable autonomy frameworks, and bridge research components to production-grade deployments.

The role blends hands-on development with a research mandate in a hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate has a Master or PhD in information/computer/automation engineering, 3–6 years of C++ experience, and hands-on knowledge of Docker, PX4, ROS 2, Gazebo,

Competenze

• Master degree or PhD in information engineering, computer engineering, or automation engineering.
• 3–6 years of professional experience in software development with modern C++ (C++14/17).
• Hands-on experience with Docker, PX4, ROS 2, Gazebo and the C++ robotics ecosystem (BehaviorTree.CPP, OpenCV, PCL, Eigen).
• Experience deploying ML/autonomy workloads on GPU architectures (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson).
• Proven experience in at least one autonomy-related domain: robotics, ADAS/automotive, space, UAVs, or similar.
• Strong fundamentals in concurrency, memory models, scheduling, software architecture and design patterns.
• Research mindset; ability to explore open problems and frame solutions.

Mansioni

• Investigate software methodologies and create trade studies, reference architectures, and guidelines.
• Design and prototype reusable frameworks and infrastructure for deterministic autonomy software.
• Bridge research components to production-grade, robust deployments including partitioning and mixed-criticality concepts.
• Build internal tooling and CI harnesses for deterministic validation.
• Contribute to technical direction, coding standards and mentorship for engineers.
• Balance speculative prototypes with rigorous, production-grade coding.
