We are currently seeking a Senior Automation Engineer, reporting directly to the Instrumentation & Control Systems (ICS) section head, to join our ICS Engineering division team based in Rome, Italy.

About the Job

You will work within the Instrumentation and Control Systems Section, responsible for designing Instrumentation, Control, Safety, and Monitoring systems for medium to large and complex projects. The Senior Automation Engineer role involves developing assigned tasks independently, with minimal guidance from other Seniors, and periodic review by the Automation Leader to ensure objectives are met.

Your responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing project technical specifications aligned with Project/Client requirements;
  2. Meeting project quality and HSE objectives;
  3. Reporting on engineering and requisition activities to the Automation Leader;
  4. Interfacing with other discipline engineers and project support functions such as Procurement, Construction, and Planning;
  5. Supervising and coordinating activities of junior/intermediate engineers;
  6. Preparing, updating, and checking Control, Safety, and Monitoring Systems Architectures and Diagrams;
  7. Calculating IS loops and Fieldbus segments;
  8. Preparing and checking automation hardware and software design documents;
  9. Participating in the Safety Systems Lifecycle, including HAZOP sessions and safety documentation;
  10. Reviewing vendor bids and evaluating technical bids;
  11. Ensuring contractual technical specifications are met by suppliers;
  12. Communicating with vendors and following up on orders;
  13. Reviewing vendor drawings.

Opportunities for business trips to attend technical meetings, visit vendor workshops, and support site activities are available, supporting erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up phases.

About You

We’d love to hear from you if your profile meets these essential requirements:

  • Master's degree in Electronic, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering;
  • 3-6 years of experience in detailed engineering and design of Control and Safety systems for refinery, gas, power, renewables, or infrastructure projects;
  • Knowledge of international codes and standards like IEC, ANSI, ISO, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, CSA, UL, API;
  • Effective communication skills in an international, multicultural environment;
  • Interest in energy transition challenges and digital transformation;
  • Willingness to undertake international mobility;
  • Knowledge of new energy sources and hydrogen technologies is a plus;
  • Advanced Excel/VBA/database management skills are a plus;
  • IEC-61508/61511 Functional Safety Engineer certification is a plus;
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and adaptable to fast-paced environments.
