APM Terminals Vado Gateway is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our Asset Maintenance team. You will help ensure the reliability, performance, and continuous development of our automated terminal systems, working with Operations, technology partners, and engineering teams.

This role offers exposure to one of Europe’s most advanced container terminals, with opportunities to shape automation strategies, improve equipment availability, and contribute to safe, efficient port operations at Vado

Competenze

  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electronics or equivalent.
  • Experience with highly automated electromechanical systems.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics, motors, drives, PLCs.
  • Basic IT knowledge: servers, databases, APIs, and networking.
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

Mansioni

  • Support project teams and end users during implementation of automated systems.
  • Design, test, commission, and improve automation systems and networks.
  • Troubleshoot industrial networks and document solutions.
  • Monitor risks and prepare reports with preventive actions.
  • Ensure IT/OT service management compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, integrators, and suppliers for deployment.
  • Drive reliability through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Analyze KPIs to support long-term maintenance and automation strategies.

At APM Terminals Vado Gateway, we are shaping the future of automated port operations through innovation, technology, and operational excellence. We are currently looking for an Automation Engineer to join our Asset Maintenance team and play a key role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous development of our automated terminal systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most technologically advanced container terminals in Europe, collaborating with Operations, technology providers, and engineering teams to maximize safety, availability, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support project teams and end users during the implementation of automated systems and technologies.
  • Contribute to the design, testing, commissioning, and continuous improvement of industrial automation systems, networks, and related infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot industrial network and wireless communication issues, documenting solutions and maintaining technical knowledge bases.
  • Monitor risks and opportunities during implementation projects, preparing reports and recommending preventive actions.
  • Ensure compliance with IT and Operational Technology (OT) service management processes and contribute to their continuous improvement.
  • Participate in research and development initiatives aimed at enhancing automation system performance, reliability, and competitiveness.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, system integrators, contractors, and suppliers to ensure successful implementation and integration of automation solutions.
  • Drive equipment reliability through fault analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor and analyze equipment reliability and availability KPIs to support long-term maintenance and automation strategies.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience working with highly automated electromechanical systems.
  • Good understanding of electrical systems and electrical schematics, including motors, actuators, circuit breakers, and three-phase systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic devices, drives/inverters, motor modules, I/O components, and PLCs.
  • Experience with Siemens products is considered a strong advantage.
  • Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, servers, databases, and APIs.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, and Modbus.
  • Basic programming skills in at least one language such as Python, C++, C#, JavaScript, VB6, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and results-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent documentation and follow-through capabilities.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred
  • Previous experience in ports, container terminals, logistics facilities, or other highly automated industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean methodologies such as Kaizen, A3 Problem Solving, and Root Cause Analysis.
