PPG is seeking an Automation Engineer at its Quattordio plant, which is transitioning towards Industry 4.0 standards. The role requires a blend of engineering and hands-on troubleshooting in a dynamic environment, focusing on process control systems and project enhancements. Strong candidates will combine technical expertise with excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and address operational challenges.
Automation Engineer
DESCRIPTION:
Quattordio plant is undergoing a transition towards full industry 4.0 standards on the factory floor, the aim of the factory is to also be as autonomous as possible in the management of the new systems installed.
This resource will be following Engineering projects for new installations as well as having a significant presence on the factory floor to improve existing systems and to solve issues that might occur during normal operations.
RESPONSABILITIES:
Create, modify, program and troubleshoot Process Control system hardware and software including PC’s, PLC’s, HMI’s, VFD’s, intelligent devices, programmable controllers.
Implementation, testing and startup of control strategies for batch applications in coatings industries.
Develop high quality, well tested and well documented process control system software and hardware to meet customer specifications in cooperation with Quattordio Engineering Team and Global Engineering.
In collaboration with Maintenance elaborate a Maintenance Strategy and End of life management performing prompt maintenance and process control system software modifications to correct processing problems or institute minor enhancements.
Manage and Monitoring contract compliance by eventual external service providers performing software modification activities through elaboration of Technical Specification, validation of Development plan and assuring that PPG standards are well implemented
Update drawings and configuration information of all software communications hardware (addresses, port settings, VLAN settings, etc.), to ensure timely diagnosis of problems and replacement.
Ensuring that adequate controls are built into systems and that operational controls exist to ensure the continued, reliable, and secure processing of information in their custody.
Identify and stay up to date on new trends in the controls field that could benefit the organization, identifying and suggesting training initiatives for relevant staff.
Interprets principles, theories and concepts of process control engineering in order to solve problems and make design specifications
REQUIRED PROFILE (m/f):
Good human relation skills (ability to adapt communication to technical and non-technical people).
Experience in Agile approach and Architectural design
Excellent problem solving skills.
Good knowledge of English.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in STEM disciplines (5 years optional)
SKILLS:
The ideal candidate should have the following functional and technical skills:
Deep knowledge and familiarity with PLC, SCADA, HMI systems
Experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley
Deep knowledge of the following programming languages:
Ladder
Functional blocks
Sequential Function Chart (SFC)
Visual Basic
