ZEISS Group in Lombardy seeks an Automation Engineer to design, test, implement and operate automation systems, aiming to simplify production, increase efficiency and maintain product quality while adhering to internal protocols.

The role collaborates with production and maintenance teams for the deployment of new automated processes, scouts suppliers, develops software and control logics, and leads projects from concept to installation across regions including China.

In the industrial sector, the Automation Engineer designs, tests, implements and operationally manages industrial automation systems with the aim of simplifying the production process, making it more efficient, as well as increasing company productivity, maintaining product quality and respecting internal protocols and regulations in force.

He/She is the contact person for the engineering team for all issues/projects/activities connected with industrial automation, both for existing and future processes.

He/She works closely with the production and maintenance teams for the production launch of new automated processes or for the improvement of existing processes.

He/She also supports the manufacturing area in solving production problems where they arise or are connected to automation issues.

He/She scouts suppliers, investigates new technologies in the field of industrial automation, acting as a sponsor and spokesperson for ideas and suggestions for improvement.

He/She collaborates with the manufacturing area to design medium and long-term plans for the progressive automation of the production chain.

As part of a global role between Italy and China, he/she extends its accountability on the above issues to the Chinese plant.

Within his/her area of expertise, the A.E.:

• searches for and identifies new automation opportunities within the production process.
• draws up technical specifications and project specifications for the new automation process.
• follows the design of automated systems, new processes and automation equipment using external suppliers.
• develops software and prototypes in the “concept proof” or “idea generation” phase.
• develops projects through the creation of mathematical models, diagrams and technical drawings.
• collaborating with suppliers, defines the architecture of the overall system (sensors, actuators, controllers, electrical/electronic interfaces) and designs the control logics: open loop control or feedback control.
• creates mathematical models, diagrams and technical drawings and then deals with software development and the programming of control systems (typically PLC).
• is dedicated to the implementation of automated processes and the installation and testing of robotic systems and components.
• produces reports and related technical documentation and manuals and provides the necessary training to technicians and operators who will have to program, start up and control the automated systems, as well as to maintenance personnel responsible for the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the robots.
• in collaboration with maintenance, resolves any problems related to automated processes, intervening promptly, to restore business operations.
• programs the systems at various levels (PLC, operator panels, SCADA interfaces).

Within the function of belonging, he/she constantly interacts with colleagues specialized in the management of PLC/SCADA systems and interfaces with other company functions responsible for the implementation and maintenance of digital systems.
