Position Summary
The Associate Full Stack Developer supports the design, development, and maintenance of scalable web applications, contributing to web development, systems integration, and application support. This role follows the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and actively participates in implementation, delivery, and maintenance efforts. The focus is on web content delivery, leveraging Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), to enhance Villanova University’s digital presence. The role is key in driving innovation and supporting digital transformation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Front-End Development & User Experience
- Develop responsive and interactive user interfaces using frameworks such as Bootstrap, Mustache.js, React, or similar.
- Ensure web applications follow accessibility (WCAG), usability, and best practices for structured content.
- Work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to enhance user experience and readability.
- Assist in UX/UI design tasks including wireframing, user flows, and interaction design.
Back-End Development & Systems Integration
- Assist in developing, migrating, and enhancing web applications, including the Digital Experience Platform and web portal.
- Support API development and system integration.
- Work with databases (relational or NoSQL) for data management.
- Implement authentication, authorization, and data security measures.
Performance Optimization, Security & Process Improvement
- Optimize web performance, including server-side rendering, caching, and asset management.
- Apply security best practices, including data protection and access control.
- Support efforts to improve web content discoverability and accessibility.
- Identify and implement workflow optimizations and automation solutions.
- Assist with SEO-related performance improvements.
Collaboration, Research & Innovation
- Collaborate with developers, designers, and stakeholders.
- Support web design enhancements, feature development, and troubleshooting.
- Stay updated on web development trends and technologies.
- Contribute ideas for enhancing Villanova’s web presence.
Documentation, Training & Quality Assurance
- Help prepare documentation for development and maintenance.
- Provide basic training and support for web applications.
- Participate in QA and testing, including user acceptance testing.
- Assist in creating test plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Formal Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience or certifications considered.
Work Experience
- 0-2 years in full-stack development or relevant coursework/projects.
Work Skills
- Basic experience or coursework in front-end development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, frameworks).
- Familiarity with back-end concepts and willingness to learn programming languages.
- Strong communication skills.
- Adaptability in a dynamic environment.
Specific Job Knowledge
- Understanding of UI/UX principles, APIs, system integration.
- Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience
- Experience with cloud applications/services like AWS, AEM, Boomi, or web analytics.
- Experience with web/graphic design tools like Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop.
Work Skills
- Understanding of web content management systems.
