Job Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in surgical procedures, including preparing surgery packs, monitoring anesthesia, and serving as a scrubbed surgical assistant.
- Provide individualized wellness counseling to clients based on knowledge of preventive care, disease prevention, and lifestyle risks.
- Prepare and administer vaccinations, oral and topical medications as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor patient condition during surgical procedures and inform medical staff of any changes.
- Prepare and dispense prescription medications according to veterinarian instructions.
- Assist in obtaining local credentialing for various procedures as required by the clinic's patient load.
Requirements
- Must have a valid Social Security Card and be able to set up direct deposit.
- Meet all qualification, eligibility, and background requirements.
- May be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Ability to work occasional Saturdays for events.
- Complete a physical examination including all mandated immunizations prior to employment.
- Must not have aversions to animals, blood, bodily fluids, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, and reaching.
- Compliance with COVID-19 workplace safety protocols, including vaccination status.
Qualifications
Experience demonstrating ability to perform duties, such as work at pet stores, farms, or animal shelters, is required. Knowledge of animal restraint techniques per AVMA guidelines and proper vaccine and syringe handling is essential.
Additional Information
- Area of consideration includes the local 50-mile radius, with options for relocation or commuting outside this area.
- Salary ranges from $15.01 to $15.60 per hour depending on grade level.
- No allowances, incentives, or PCS costs are authorized.
- Employment schedule is flexible, with guaranteed hours per week based on mission needs.
- Additional referrals may be made from this vacancy for up to 90 days after closing.
