Hewlett Packard Enterprise is looking for a 3GPP developer to join our team in Italy. The role is designed as Hybrid, requiring an average of 2 days per week from an HPE office.

You will design, develop, and troubleshoot backend software systems for 4G/5G related platforms, collaborating with internal and external partners. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor's or master's in CS/IS with 6–10 years of backend experience.

Job Description

Job Family Definition: Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.

Management Level Definition: Contributions impact technical components of HPE products, solutions, or services regularly and sustainably. Applies advanced subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Provides expertise and partnership to functional and technical project teams and may participate in cross‑functional initiatives. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine best method for achieving objectives. May provide team leadership and mentoring to others.

Responsibilities

• Leads multiple project teams of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.
• Manages and expands relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on software systems design and development.
• Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
• Provides domain‑specific expertise and overall software systems leadership and perspective to cross‑organization projects, programs, and activities.
• Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the software systems design organization.
• Provides guidance and mentoring to less‑experienced staff members.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent. Typically 6‑10 years experience. Experience designing and developing backend or distributed software systems. Fluent in English and Italian.

Technical Skills Mandatory

• Strong knowledge of SW development languages for backend.
• Solid experience with Linux operating systems and networking fundamentals.
• Good understanding of IP networking, including the major Layer 2/Layer 3 protocols.
• Experience with software development best practices, version control systems (Git), and issue‑tracking platforms.
• Experience with software testing, debugging, and troubleshooting methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with 4G/LTE and 5G Core Networks.
• Familiarity with Linux kernel networking concepts and the network stack.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud‑native environments.
• Exposure to telecommunications protocols and network function architectures.
• Knowledge of IP advanced routing, including protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
• Understanding of microservices and distributed systems design principles.

The expected salary/wage range for this position is provided below. Actual offer may vary from this range based upon geographic location, work experience, education/training, and/or skill level. – Italy: Annual Salary EUR 48,700 - 95,700 The listed salary range reflects base salary. Variable incentives may also be offered.
