DUTIES AND ROLE
This post involves shift work.
Under the direction of the Shift Chief and Chief Technician, the incumbent will perform duties including:
- Operate and perform unit and field level maintenance and emergency interventions on the Satellite Anchor Component and associated communications facilities, and terrestrial links (DLOS, Fiber) terminating at the SAC site.
- Maintain SAC site logs and ensure proper outage reporting.
- Activate circuits in accordance with circuit work orders.
- Operate/maintain data networks to support reach-back/backhaul for deployed NATO forces.
- Provide feedback to improve training programs and ensure maintenance personnel follow procedures.
- Participate in On-the-Job-Training (OJT) programs to complement formal training.
- Perform duties as requested by Station Command related to daily site operations and its role within NCIA, NATO, and the local community.
- Deputize for higher-grade staff if required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Active NATO SECRET security clearance.
- Higher vocational training with 2 years post-related experience or secondary education with 4 years post-related experience.
- At least 2 years' experience with satellite ground terminals/stations or related systems such as radars or Line-Of-Sight.
- Basic experience with antenna subsystems, including radome, feed horn, reflector, pedestal, waveguides, tracking receiver, servo, and drive equipment, including fault diagnosis and repair.
- Basic experience with transmit and receive chains, including up and down converters, LNAs, and high power amplifiers.
- Basic experience with MODEMs, cryptographic equipment, routers, and switches.
- Basic experience with computer-assisted Monitor and Control Systems (MCS).
- Basic experience with GPS-disciplined Frequency Reference Standards and distribution systems.
- Basic experience with Fiber Optical cables and related systems.
- Basic experience with digital techniques, TCP/IP fundamentals, video transmission, and telecommunications quality assurance.
- Experience in testing and maintaining modern communication systems.
- Effective communication skills, tact, diplomacy, and good briefing abilities.
Desirable Experience and Education
- Experience with digital network management, fault, security, and configuration management, including packet switching systems supporting voice and data transfer.
- Experience working in an international environment with military and civilian elements.
- Knowledge of NATO responsibilities, ACO, and ACT.
