We are seeking a Data Analyst for Climate Services Design to join our Regional Models and Geo-Hydrological Impacts (REMHI) division, based in Caserta. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in climate data analysis (GIS, Python) with a creative approach to co-design innovative indicators and user-centered climate services. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of data science, stakeholder engagement, and climate adaptation strategies, contributing to solutions with high societal impact.

ROLE

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and development projects, supporting the Climate service & Dataclime (CSD) unit that addresses climate change challenges by bridging research and end users. It leverages data from weather-and climate models, observations to quantify hazards in climate risk analysis processes for key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and water. CSD’s mission is to provide tailored support, linking climate data, potential impacts, and areas of interest to facilitate informed decision-making.



RESPONSIBILITIES
The Data Analyst for Climate Services Design will support the REMHI Division, with:
  • Process and analyze diverse environmental datasets (e.g., weather and climate data, including satellite observations) using advanced analytical methods and custom tools developed in Python.
  • Conduct sophisticated spatial analysis to assess climate patterns, trends, and variability across different geographical scales
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary and international teams to co-develop innovative data applications and climate services that bridge research and end-user needs across key sectors impacted by climate change
  • Produce technical and scientific reports, present findings at conferences, and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and facilitate collaborative workshops with stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in research projects in collaboration with universities, research institutes, and government agencies.

REQUIREMENTS
  • M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Meteorology and Physics of the Atmosphere or Physics, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, or related field
  • Strong proficiency in processing and analyzing multiple types of data (weather, climate, EO etc..), with strong background in spatial analysis and statistics
  • Demonstrated experience in programming with Python and knowledge of Python scientific libraries and tools (i.e., xarray, numpy, pandas, matplotlib, Jupyter notebooks);
  • Expert knowledge GIS platforms (ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and formats (GeoTIFF, NetCDF, HDF)
  • Experience with climate data management programs such as CDO (Climate Data Operators) and NCO (NetCDF Operators).
  • Experience with data visualization tools (also web tool)
  • Knowledge of the most common S.O. such as Linux and Windows operating systems, with the ability to work across different platforms.
  • Experience in writing technical/scientific documentation, including project reports and research papers.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication in English.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
  • Proficiency in database management and SQL
  • Version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience with Jupyter Notebooks, GitHub workflows, and cloud-based data processing environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).

DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
  • The Researcher will be based in Caserta CMCC office.
  • Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience.
  • Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
  • Flexible working time as per internal policies
  • Support during the immigration process, if needed.
