Job summary

Randstad is seeking a Yard Manager to oversee Tata Steel-related yard operations located in Odisha. The role requires leadership of permanent staff and contract labor to ensure safe, efficient receipt, storage, processing and dispatch of steel products.

Key duties include managing C&B operations, inventory accuracy, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to optimize resources and deliver on-time orders with strict safety standards.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of relevant experience in steel yard operations or related sectors.
• Hands-on experience in Cut & Bend (C&B) operations and steel processing.
• Strong knowledge of warehouse management, inventory control, dispatch planning and logistics coordination.
• Experience in leading large operational teams including permanent staff and contract labor.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage overall yard operations including receipt, storage, inventory management, processing and dispatch of products.
• Oversee C&B operations to ensure quality, productivity and timely order execution.
• Plan, organize and supervise day-to-day yard activities for smooth operations.
• Coordinate with Sales, Stores, Logistics, Finance and Procurement for efficient operations.
• Ensure accurate inventory management through stock verification and documentation.
• Monitor loading, unloading, stacking, handling and reduce damage and losses.
• Plan and monitor dispatch schedules for timely customer deliveries.
• Coordinate with transporters for vehicle placement and dispatch planning.
• Ensure maintenance of cranes, forklifts, weighbridges and other equipment.
• Promote 5S, implement improvements and monitor safety and compliance.

Job Purpose

The Yard Manager will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the yard operations, ensuring efficient receipt, storage, processing, inventory management, and dispatch of Tata Steel products. The role requires effective leadership of permanent employees and contract labor, optimization of operational resources, strict adherence to safety standards, and seamless coordination with internal departments to achieve operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage overall yard operations, including the receipt, storage, inventory management, processing, and dispatch of Tata Steel products.
• Oversee Cut & Bend (C&B) operations to ensure quality, productivity, and timely order execution.
• Plan, organize, and supervise day-to-day yard activities to ensure a smooth operational flow.
• Manage and lead the yard workforce, including permanent employees, supervisors, operators, and contract labor.
• Coordinate with Sales, Stores, Logistics, Finance, Procurement, and other departments to ensure efficient business operations.
• Ensure accurate inventory management through regular stock verification, reconciliation, and proper documentation.
• Monitor loading, unloading, stacking, preservation, and material handling activities while minimizing product damage and losses.
• Plan and monitor dispatch schedules to ensure the timely delivery of customer orders.
• Coordinate with transporters and logistics partners for vehicle placement and dispatch planning.
• Ensure optimum utilization and preventive maintenance of cranes, forklifts, weighbridges, and other material handling equipment.
• Implement and monitor operational controls to improve productivity, reduce operational costs, and optimize resource utilization.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, statutory regulations, and all applicable safety, environmental, and operational standards.
• Promote and maintain high standards of housekeeping through 5S implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Handle operational issues and customer concerns related to dispatch, material availability, and service quality.
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports, inventory reports, and operational performance reports to the Director.
• Monitor operational expenses and support cost optimization initiatives while maintaining service quality.
• Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and mentor team members to improve overall productivity and engagement.

Candidate Profile

• 5-8 years of relevant experience in steel yard operations, Tata Steel dealerships, steel manufacturing, steel service centers, or industrial yard operations.
• Hands-on experience in managing Cut & Bend (C&B) operations and steel processing activities.
• Strong knowledge of warehouse management, inventory control, dispatch planning, logistics coordination, and material handling.
• Experience in leading large operational teams, including permanent employees and contract labor.
• A good understanding of Tata Steel products and dealer operations is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Tally ERP and proficiency in MS Excel.
• Familiarity with EHS practices, statutory compliance, workplace safety, and 5S implementation.
• Strong leadership, planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results under tight operational deadlines.
