Persistent Systems in Pune seeks an experienced Wireless Network Operations Lead to oversee end-to-end administration of HLR/HSS and SMSC platforms across 3G, 4G, and evolving 5G networks. You will drive reliability, offer production support, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.

The role requires deep knowledge of SS7, Diameter, VoLTE signaling, and subscriber management, plus strong Linux/Unix skills and Kubernetes experience.

Qualifications

• 12-16 years of hands-on HLR/HSS operations experience in telecom environments.
• Strong knowledge of wireless core network components and signaling.
• Experience with HSUPA/VoLTE call flows and 3G/4G/5G core concepts.

Responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end administration, operations, and maintenance of HLR/HSS and SMSC platforms.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot service-impacting issues, ensure high availability.
• Analyse and resolve issues involving SS7, MAP, Diameter, VoLTE, SGd signaling.
• Support provisioning, migrations, and lifecycle management across 3G/4G/5G.
• Execute software installations, upgrades, and platform enhancements with minimal disruption.
• Collaborate to investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes.
• Support STP, DRA, and interworking elements for seamless signaling connectivity.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures and automation scripts.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Wireless Network Operations Lead to join our Wireless Core Network Operations team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end administration, maintenance, and operational support of HLR/HSS platforms that enable mission-critical wireless services across 3G, 4G, and evolving 5G networks. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in subscriber management, wireless core architecture, SS7 and Diameter signaling protocols, and complex production troubleshooting. You will play a key role in ensuring network reliability, service availability, and seamless customer experiences in a fast-paced telecom environment. Relevant enterprise references include HLR/HSS and SMSC components within wireless core network architectures.

What You'll Do:

• Perform end-to-end administration, operations, and maintenance of HLR/HSS and SMSC platforms within the wireless core network.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot service-impacting issues, and ensure high availability of critical subscriber databases and messaging services.
• Analyse and resolve complex network issues involving SS7, MAP, Diameter, VoLTE, and SGd signaling protocols.
• Support subscriber provisioning, migration activities, and lifecycle management across 3G, 4G, and 5G environments.
• Execute software installations, upgrades, patches, and platform enhancements while minimising service disruption.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
• Support STP, DRA, and interworking network elements to ensure seamless service integration and signalling connectivity.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, automation scripts, and deployment documentation.
• Participate in on-call support and rotational shift coverage across IST and PST time zones.
• Drive continuous improvements in operational efficiency, observability, reliability, and service resilience.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in HLR/HSS operations, administration, and support within telecom or wireless service provider environments.
• Strong understanding of wireless core network architecture, including HLR, HSS, SMSC, STP, DRA, and subscriber management systems.
• In-depth knowledge of 3G, 4G/LTE, and emerging 5G core network concepts and call flows. Similar expertise in HSS, EPC, Diameter, and 5G core components is referenced in internal telecom profiles and documentation.
• Proficiency in SS7, MAP, Diameter, VoLTE, and SGd signalling analysis and troubleshooting.
• Experience with HLR/HSS and SMSC deployments, software upgrades, migrations, and production support activities.
• Strong Linux/Unix system administration skills and experience working with containerised environments such as Kubernetes.
• Scripting and automation experience using Shell, Python, or similar technologies.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure production environments.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across operations, engineering, vendors, and business teams.
