Job summary

Apollo Hospitals in Gurugram is seeking an experienced Ward Manager to oversee daily ward operations, supervise nursing staff, and ensure safe, compassionate patient care. The role focuses on staffing, rounds, documentation, and interdepartmental coordination to maintain high standards of clinical practice.

The incumbent will lead by example, implement NABH-aligned practices, and participate in quality initiatives and incident reporting.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognised institution.
• Valid nursing registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
• Experience in hospital nursing, preferably in a supervisory or ward management role.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate day-to-day nursing activities of the ward.
• Ensure safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to all patients.
• Allocate duties and prepare duty rosters for nursing and support staff.
• Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, grooming, discipline and performance.
• Ensure adequate staffing and timely replacement in case of absenteeism.
• Conduct regular rounds and monitor patient care, documentation and nursing practices.
• Ensure proper medication administration and adherence to safety protocols.
• Monitor vital signs and escalation of clinical concerns.
• Maintain accurate nursing records and patient documentation.
• Coordinate with doctors and other departments for smooth patient care.
• Handle patient concerns and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control practices.
• Monitor ward equipment, supplies, and biomedical waste management.
• Ensure proper handover between shifts and emergency preparedness.
• Support audits, quality initiatives, incident reporting and corrective actions.
• Maintain ward cleanliness, safety, hygiene, and environment.

Job Purpose

To ensure effective management of the ward, quality nursing care, patient safety, staff coordination, and smooth day-to-day operations of the assigned ward in accordance with hospital policies and clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day nursing activities of the ward.
• Ensure safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to all patients.
• Allocate duties and prepare duty rosters for nursing staff and support staff.
• Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, grooming, discipline, and performance.
• Ensure adequate staffing and timely replacement in case of absenteeism.
• Conduct regular rounds and monitor patient care, documentation, and nursing practices.
• Ensure proper medication administration and compliance with medication safety protocols.
• Monitor vital signs, patient condition, treatment plans, and escalation of clinical concerns.
• Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of nursing records and patient documentation.
• Coordinate with doctors, nursing teams, laboratory, pharmacy, housekeeping, dietary, and other departments for smooth patient care.
• Handle patient and attendant concerns and escalation unresolved issues appropriately.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control practices.
• Monitor availability and proper utilization of ward equipment, consumables, medicines, and supplies.
• Ensure proper handover and takeover between shifts.
• Monitor emergency preparedness and ensure staff are familiar with emergency procedures.
• Ensure adherence to hospital policies, SOPs, NABH standards, and patient safety protocols.
• Identify training requirements and support orientation and skill development of nursing staff.
• Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, incident reporting, and corrective actions.
• Maintain ward cleanliness, safety, hygiene, and overall environment.
• Monitor biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per hospital guidelines.
• Ensure proper documentation of incidents, complaints, medication errors, falls, and other adverse events.
• Support implementation of hospital initiatives, quality indicators, and nursing performance standards.
• Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Nursing Superintendent / Management.

Required Qualifications:

• B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
• Valid nursing registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
• Relevant experience in hospital nursing, preferably in a supervisory or ward management role.

Experience

• Preferably 5-8 years of relevant clinical nursing experience, including experience in handling ward operations or a supervisory role.
