Job Title – Design Lead – Interior Cockpit (IP & CCB)
Reporting to – IAP SDM
Location – Stellantis India Private Limited, Chennai
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
- Own End to End design responsibility for IP IMG parts, soft wrapped components, air ducts, and air vents.
- Lead End to End design and development of Cross Car Beam assemblies, including metallic, hybrid, or composite structures.
- Ensure seamless integration of IP & CCB subsystems with CCB, HVAC unit, defrost ducts, airvent, trim panels, and electronics.
- Drive compliance with interior quality, safety, thermal, airflow, noise, and durability requirements.
- Balance design intent, manufacturability, cost, weight, and performance tradeoffs.
- Ensure designs meet strength, stiffness, NVH, safety, and crash requirements.
- Drive weight, cost, and part count optimization initiatives.
- Create and release 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, GD&T, and specifications per Stellantis standards.
- Lead design activities for Special process such as In-mold graining, Slush mold components, Soft wrapped parts (foam, skin, wrapping strategy, heat staking, bonding), Air ducts (defrost, side, center ducts - airflow efficiency, sealing), Air vents (louvers, registers, mechanisms, feel & feedback)
- Conduct and support DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack ups, and airflow studies.
- Coordinate with CAE teams to close loops on thermal, vibration, noise, and durability simulations.
- Coordinate closely with HVAC system teams to ensure, Proper airflow distribution and pressure drop targets. Effective sealing and anti-squeak/rattle performance. Optimized duct routing within IP and CCB constraints. Optimized duct routing within IP and CCB constraints
- Lead design releases, change management, and engineering sign off activities.
- Support testing and validation of thermal comfort and airflow performance.
- Work with manufacturing engineering on tooling feasibility, draft, parting lines, texture, and assembly strategy.
- Interface with suppliers and Tier 2 vendors on design feasibility, tooling kick offs, and validation.
- Support purchasing and program management with technical inputs, cost reduction, and supplier evaluations.
- Support cost reduction, VA/VE, and supplier technical reviews.
- Manage engineering changes, releases, and design updates via PLM systems.
- Support prototype, DV, PV, and production builds.
- Address fit, finish, wrapping quality, airflow issues, and warranty concerns.
- Ensure robust issue resolution through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support PPAP, quality audits, and launch readiness activities.
Qualifications, Experience and Competency requirements
Preferred Education
- B.E./B. Tech or M.E/ M. Tech in Mechanical, Automobile, Production and Industrial Engineering (Full - Time)
Preferred Experience
Essential
- 8 to 10 years of Product Design & development experience in automotive Cross car beam
- Must have worked on local development programs.
- Working experience in Component & System level designing.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling within a product development environment
- Good Knowledge in Manufacturing & Assembly feasibility study.
- Experience in constructing component and full vehicle DVP&R and DFMEA
- Knowledge on stamping/Welding and sheet metal process.
- Working knowledge on interior regulatory and certification requirements
- Good communication skills, presentation skills, technical report writing skills, and timeline creation and management skills are required.
- Work experience with International Tier 1 and OEMS.
- Hand on experience in AI/ML is added advantage
Desirable
- Experience working with global OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
- Hands on experience on IMG, Slush mold, soft wrapping design and development
- Hands on experience supporting CAE correlation, crash simulations, and NVH.
Language Requirements
Software skill requirement
- Expertise in UG (NX), CATIA V5/V6, PLM and Team center
- Knowledge in MS-Office or Google G-Suite
