Engineered role: VMware and Storage Engineer – hybrid, average 2 days per week working from an HPE office.
What you’ll do
- Administer, operate and manage vSphere Datacenters.
- Handle ESXi and vCenter upgrades and maintain command‑line interface proficiency.
- Manage vCenter Appliance databases and configure vPostgres.
- Configure and troubleshoot vCenter HA, DRS and cluster features.
- Perform virtual machine operations and configuration.
- Manage vSphere authentication, certificate and security settings.
- Monitor vSphere performance using charts, esxtop and performance tools.
- Set up and manage vSphere networking: standard and distributed switches.
- Configure vSphere storage: iSCSI, FC, software‑iSCSI, RDM.
- Harden ESXi hosts and maintain physical network and storage knowledge.
- Analyze logs and conduct root cause analysis.
- Troubleshoot network issues with packet captures (pktcap, Wireshark).
- Employ VMware PowerCLI scripting.
- Work with VMware SRM, vSAN, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory.
- Use basic Linux operating systems.
- Resolve customer issues via telephone, e‑mail or remote sessions.
- Escalate issues to vendors following process guidelines.
- Leverage internal knowledge bases, peers and community forums for solutions.
- Collaborate with technology teams to isolate complex issues.
- Maintain case documentation, SLA timeframes and operational metrics.
- Meet the team’s productivity scorecard.
- Perform problem management, post‑incident reviews and root cause analysis.
What you need to bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in an enterprise managed services environment.
- Certifications such as VMware VCP, RHCSA, CCNA or ITIL are an added advantage.
- Flexibility to work in a 24/7 support environment.
