Job summary

WOW Softech in Faridabad, India seeks a seasoned Head of Operations to lead heavy engineering, gear manufacturing, and rolling mill projects from design to commissioning.

You will steer design, production, machine shop, assembly and quality teams, drive Lean/Kaizen culture, ensure EHS compliance, and deliver on-time, within budget by coordinating with global partners and EPC stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Must have B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
• 30+ years in heavy engineering with at least 10 years in senior plant/operations leadership.
• Proven experience in gear manufacturing, hot rolling mill equipment and related heavy machinery.
• Hands-on knowledge of design, heavy machining, assembly and quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end project execution for turnkey rolling mill projects.
• Lead machine shop operations including CNC, HMC, VTL, gear cutting and grinding.
• Manage assembly, testing and dispatch readiness with proper documentation.
• Head quality functions including inspection, ISO 9001 alignment and CAPA.
• Provide strategic leadership to design, production, machine shop, assembly and quality heads.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

1. Project Management

• Own end-to-end execution of turnkey rolling mill projects, from order receipt and engineering to manufacturing, SCM, dispatch, erection and commissioning.
• Set up and run project planning, scheduling, costing and milestone tracking (PERT/CPM, MS Project/Primavera).
• Monitor project P&L, cash flow, delivery commitments and liquidated-damages exposure.
• Act as the senior escalation point for key customers, consultants and EPC partners.
• Coordinate with international partners on joint and export projects.

2. Machine Shop

• Lead heavy and precision machining operations (CNC, HMC, VTL, boring, gear cutting, grinding and similar).
• Improve machine utilisation, OEE, cycle times and cost per component.
• Plan capacity, loading, outsourcing and capital investment in new equipment.
• Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance of critical machines.

3. Assembly

• Oversee shop assembly, trial runs and no-load testing of mill stands, gearboxes and complete systems before dispatch.
• Set up assembly standards, fit-up procedures and inspection checkpoints.
• Make sure equipment is dispatch-ready, with proper documentation and site-erection support.

4. Quality

• Lead the quality function: incoming, in-process and final inspection, NDT and dimensional verification.
• Maintain and strengthen ISO 9001 and other relevant certifications, plus customer and third-party inspection requirements.
• Drive root cause analysis, CAPA and cost-of-poor-quality reduction.
• Align quality systems with European and export standards.

5. Leadership & Organisation

• Lead and develop the heads of Design, Production, Machine Shop, Assembly, Quality and Projects.
• Build a culture of safety, discipline, accountability and continuous improvement (Lean, 5S, Kaizen, TPM).
• Plan succession and build capability in senior and middle management.
• Ensure compliance with EHS, statutory and labour regulations.
• Work with Purchase, Supply Chain, Finance, Sales and HR on business goals.

Preferred candidate profile

Must Have

• B.Tech in Mechanical, Production Engineering.
• 30+ years in heavy engineering, with at least 10 years in a senior plant or operations leadership role.
• Proven experience in gear manufacturing hot rolling mill equipment, long products, steel plant equipment or similar heavy machinery.
• Hands-on knowledge of design, heavy machining, assembly and quality systems.

Preferred

• Exposure to international projects or work with European or global technology partners.
• Experience running large teams and multi-disciplinary functions.
• Knowledge of ERP (SAP or similar), Lean Manufacturing and TPM.
