Job Summary
The Veterinary Doctor will be responsible for ensuring the health, welfare, and optimum productivity of Layer flocks across Non-Environment Controlled (Non-EC) farms. The role involves implementing preventive healthcare programs, vaccination schedules, disease surveillance, and biosecurity measures while monitoring breeder performance throughout the rearing and production cycle. The veterinarian will work closely with farm managers, hatchery, production, nutrition, and quality teams to improve fertility, hatchability, hatching egg quality, and overall flock performance, while ensuring compliance with company SOPs, animal welfare standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health, welfare, and performance Layer flocks across non-EC farms.
  • Develop and implement preventive healthcare, vaccination, deworming, and disease surveillance programs to maintain optimal flock health.
  • Diagnose and manage infectious, metabolic, nutritional, and reproductive diseases through clinical examination, necropsy, laboratory investigations, and timely treatment protocols.
  • Responsible for Farm Operations related to Poultry Health & Daily Management, should effectively collaborate with the Farm Managers to ensure the farms are maintained as per SOPs.
  • Ensure strict implementation of farm biosecurity measures, sanitation practices, and disease prevention strategies to minimize health risks.
  • Monitor and analyze key production parameters, including body weight, flock uniformity, egg production, fertility, hatchability, mortality, feed and water intake, and hatching egg quality, and ensure corrective actions without waiting for process failure.
  • Collaborate with hatchery teams to monitor hatchability issues, improve chick quality, and resolve incubation challenges (Egg shipment & FIFO Protocols).
  • Coordinate with nutritionists and production teams to optimize feeding programs, rations as per the physiological status, requirements and flock performance Non-EC housing systems.
  • Maintain & ensure accurate veterinary records, health reports, vaccination schedules, medication logs, laboratory reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct regular farm visits, health audits, and biosecurity inspections, and provide technical guidance and training to farm personnel on disease prevention, vaccination, biosecurity, bird welfare, and best management practices.
  • Monitor workforce deployment and ensure adequate manpower is available for critical farm operations, vaccination programs, bird handling, egg collection, cleaning, and other scheduled activities.
  • Conduct regular briefings with Farm Managers and Supervisors to review flock health, production performance, operational issues, and corrective actions.
  • Respond effectively to disease outbreaks by conducting investigations, implementing containment measures, and recommending corrective and preventive actions to safeguard flock health and productivity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (BVSc & AH)/ (MVSc)
  • Valid registration with the Veterinary Council.
  • 4 to 5 years of experience in layer operations.
  • Experience in managing both Environment Controlled (EC) and Non-Environment Controlled (Non-EC) Layer farms is preferred.
