Job description

Main Purpose:

The Unit Lead Mechanical Projects (ULMP) is responsible for delivering value through the timely execution of Mechanical Projects within budget and in compliance with RIL standards. The ULMP is responsible for project management, budget control, engineering, interface management, support to construction, facilitating commissioning, troubleshooting, and steady-state support. The ULMP is also accountable for developing team members and ensuring that learnings are shared across all functions.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Conduct conceptual studies and prepare budget estimates.
  • Identify risks associated with engineering, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning, and implement mitigation measures.
  • Prepare scope definition documents for issuing enquiries, conduct detailed technical evaluations of bids received, and recommend placement of orders for engineering, equipment, and packages.
  • Ensure that engineering is fully compliant with applicable regulations, codes, standards, and RIL specifications.
  • Ensure that all equipment and packages are manufactured, inspected, and delivered in line with the project schedule.
  • Address field engineering issues and audit observations during construction, installation, and pre-commissioning.
  • Support O&M in commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and steady-state activities.
  • Ensure compliance with RIL HSE policy during all phases of project execution.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and standards for the design of mechanical equipment and packages.
  • Provide technical expertise to carry out failure analysis and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices with the work group and drive performance improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor team members.
  • Maintain technical relationships with OEMs and manufacturers and monitor technology developments to select state-of-the-art solutions.
Skills Required:
  • Project management skills, with the ability to direct and coordinate the work activities of stakeholders, including suppliers and consultants.
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviours that drive performance.
  • Ability to build team consensus and work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Should be well conversant with applicable national (IS) and international standards, including IS, API, ASTM, etc., for the selection, specification, design, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning of packages and equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of rotating machinery as well as static mechanical equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of equipment sizing, train configuration studies, and special studies such as vibration and flow-induced pulsation studies, life-cycle cost analysis, etc.
  • Extensive experience in reviewing engineering documents.
  • Should have cross-disciplinary functional knowledge of Process, Piping, Instrumentation, and Mechanical disciplines.
  • Extensive experience participating in and contributing to special studies and workshops such as HAZOP, HAZID, etc.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide technical expertise to troubleshoot major operational problems.
  • Ability to multitask across several different projects that are in the planning or execution stages.
Qualification and Experience:
  • Candidate should be a graduate engineer (BE/BTech) from a recognized university and should have overall experience of a minimum of 25 years in the Oil & Gas/Petrochemical/CBM industry.
  • Candidate should have worked on Concept, FEED, detailed engineering, and execution of at least two projects in the Oil & Gas/Petrochemical/CBM industry.
  • Candidate should have experience in handling reputed national/international Engineering Consultants and Package/Equipment Vendors.
  • Experience in commissioning assistance and troubleshooting of equipment and packages.
