Job description

  • Create, design, and deliver comprehensive training programs for ME engines and other maritime engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure that training modules satisfy industry requirements and are focused on practical aspects of ME engine operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Regularly update training information to reflect the most recent improvements in engine technology, regulatory regulations, and best practices.
Technical Training Delivery:
  • Provide in-house and afloat training for marine engineers.
  • Concentrating on ME engine operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide hands‑on training and workshops to ensure engineers understand engine automation systems and electronic control units (OECUs).
  • Assess engineers' technical knowledge and practical skills during training sessions and onboard visits.
Assessment and Competency Evaluation:
  • Conduct frequent competency exams on shipboard engineers, especially Chief Engineers and Second Engineers, to ensure they can operate ME engines safely and effectively.
  • Develop and implement technical tests, simulations, and performance assessments to assess engineers' knowledge of ME engine systems.
  • Provide constructive feedback to engineers and establish individual growth plans to close any knowledge or skill gaps.
Crew Development and Support:
  • Help the engineering staff progress their careers by offering advice on advanced technical skills and certification needs.
  • Assist in the development of career paths for shipboard engineers, ensuring that they have prospects for advancement within the organisation.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, creating a learning environment that emphasises technical excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance.
ME Engine Troubleshooting and Support:
  • Provide shipboard engineers with technical support and experience on ME engine operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Help diagnose and resolve technical difficulties including engine automation, fuel injection systems, and engine control units (OECUs).
  • Work with the Technical Department and equipment manufacturers to resolve any complex technical issues in a timely manner.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Make sure that training programs are in conformity with the manufacturer's operational requirements for ME engines as well as international maritime standards such as SOLAS and MARPOL.
  • Encourage best practices and safety understanding about engine maintenance and operation, especially when it comes to emergency protocols involving ME engine breakdowns.
  • Make sure engineers are knowledgeable with safety equipment and procedures, such as emergency shutdown processes for electronically controlled engines and engine room safety measures.
Reporting and Documentation:
  • Keep thorough records of every training activity, including attendance, training results, and competency evaluations.
  • Write thorough reports on the engineering crew's proficiency levels and advise management on areas that require more training or growth.
  • Make certain that the crew has access to the most recent versions of any training materials, manuals, and resources.
