Role: Quality / Testing Lead (Core PAS – All Lines of Business & Integrations)

Role Overview

The Quality / Testing Lead will own the quality assurance and testing function for the Core Policy Administration System (PAS) across all lines of business and the integration landscape of a General Insurance company.

The role will establish the testing strategy, governance model, tooling, and automation framework from the ground up, and will act as the independent quality gate for the programme — ensuring that what is delivered by the PAS vendor, SI partners, and internal teams is tested end to end against business, financial, and regulatory expectations before go-live.

The role will work closely with the CIO, Product Owners, Business Analysts, PAS and Integration teams, Business, Operations and Finance users, and SI partners.

Key Accountabilities

• Own the test strategy, test governance, and quality standards for PAS and integrations.
• Lead the testing team and govern testing performed by the PAS vendor and SI partners.
• Ensure end-to-end business scenario coverage across PAS modules and all integrated interfaces.
• Own defect management, quality metrics, and go-live quality sign-off.
• Build test automation, test data management, and regression capability for sustainable delivery.
• Define and maintain the test strategy, test plans, and quality policy.
• Entry and exit criteria for each test phase
• Defect severity and priority definitions
• Traceability from requirements to test cases to defects
• Test estimation, planning, and reporting norms
• Define the quality gate model and enforce release readiness criteria.
• Govern testing performed by the PAS vendor and SI partners, including review of their test plans, cases, and results.
• Maintain independence of the quality function from delivery pressure and vendor self-certification.

Functional & End-to-End Testing

• Design and review test scenarios covering the full insurance value chain:
• Quote to proposal to policy issuance across all lines of business
• Rating, discount, loading, tax, and premium computation accuracy
• Underwriting rules, referrals, and approval workflows
• Endorsement, renewal, cancellation, and refund flows
• Claims intimation, survey, assessment, settlement, and recovery
• Commission computation, payout, and reserve treatment
• Premium accounting, GL posting, and reconciliation with Finance
• Regulatory and statutory reporting outputs
• Ensure end-to-end scenarios span PAS and integrated systems rather than testing components in isolation.
• Validate financial accuracy and accounting integrity across system boundaries.
• Validate product configuration and rating changes across releases.

Integration & API Testing

• Define the integration testing approach covering contract, functional, and negative testing.
• Validate API request and response payloads, data mappings, and error handling.
• Test timeout, retry, idempotency, and reconciliation behaviour.
• Validate batch jobs, file interfaces, scheduling, and failure recovery.
• Coordinate partner certification testing with external technology teams.
• Use API testing tools and service virtualization or stubs where partner or downstream systems are unavailable.
• Validate data consistency between PAS and downstream systems after each interface run.

Test Automation

• Define and implement the test automation strategy and framework.
• Build automated regression suites for PAS journeys and API interfaces.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Track and improve automation coverage, stability, and execution time.
• Reduce manual regression effort across successive release waves and product line launches.

Non-Functional Testing

• Plan and coordinate:
• Performance, load, stress, and volume testing
• Security and vulnerability testing
• Availability, failover, and disaster recovery testing
• Define non-functional acceptance criteria with Architects and the Integration team.
• Validate system behaviour under peak business scenarios such as renewal cycles and campaign spikes.
• Define the test data strategy, including data generation, masking, and refresh cycles.
• Ensure availability of representative data across all lines of business and product variants.
• Coordinate test environment planning, availability, and configuration with technology teams.
• Manage environment booking, conflicts, and readiness across parallel workstreams.

Defect & Quality Management

• Own the defect lifecycle from logging through triage, resolution, retesting, and closure.
• Chair defect triage forums with business, development, and vendor teams.
• Track and report quality metrics including:
• Test coverage and execution progress
• Defect density, ageing, and severity distribution
• Defect leakage across test phases and into production
• Requirement traceability coverage
• Automation coverage
• Drive root cause analysis on leaked defects and feed learnings back into the process.

UAT & Go-Live Readiness

• Plan and coordinate User Acceptance Testing with business and operations users.
• Prepare UAT scenarios, training, and support for business testers.
• Track UAT progress, defects, and sign-offs.
• Prepare go-live readiness assessments and quality sign-off recommendations.
• Support production validation, cutover verification, and hyper care defect management.
• Lead and mentor the internal testing team, including functional and automation testers.
• Define testing resource plans and capability requirements across release waves.
• Govern PAS vendor and SI testing teams against agreed quality standards and SLAs.
• Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, and Agile delivery ceremonies.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate with:
• Product Owners & Business Analysts
• PAS, Integration & Development Teams
• Business, Operations, Finance & Actuarial Teams
• Compliance & Information Security Teams
• Present quality status, risks, and release recommendations to programme governance forums.

Governance & Controls

• Maintain test artifacts, evidence, and audit trails for regulatory and internal audit review.
• Ensure testing adheres to data privacy and information security standards, particularly in test data handling.
• Support audit and compliance reviews of testing and release processes.
• Maintain the test asset repository and reusable regression library.

Required Experience

• 8–12 years of experience in software quality assurance and testing, with at least 3 years in a lead role.
• Mandatory experience in the General Insurance industry, with hands‑on testing of a core PAS across multiple lines of business.
• Demonstrated experience testing rating, premium computation, underwriting rules, claims, and commission flows.
• Strong experience testing API and integration layers, including partner, payment, and finance interfaces.
• Experience validating GL posting and reconciliation between PAS and finance systems.
• Hands‑on experience with test management and defect tracking tools.
• Experience with test automation frameworks and API testing tools.
• Strong SQL skills for data validation and back‑end verification.
• Exposure to performance and security testing approaches.
• Experience governing vendor and SI testing teams.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Experience in a greenfield or large‑scale platform transformation programme will be a strong advantage.

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
• Certifications in test automation tools or Agile testing will be an added advantage.
• Insurance certifications (III / LOMA or equivalent) will be an added advantage.
