Job summary

KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) seeks an experienced telecom design engineer in Chennai region to prepare detailed engineering documents for telecom systems and to design fiber optic networks, structured cabling, and LAN/WAN infrastructure.

The role involves coordinating with clients and vendors, participating in FAT/SAT, and ensuring designs comply with international standards. 10–20 years of relevant experience is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications engineering required.
• 10 to 20 years of experience in telecom engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed engineering documents for telecom systems, including system architecture, block diagrams, technical specifications, data sheets.
• Design telecom systems including fiber optic networks, structured cabling, and LAN/WAN infrastructure.
• Handle telecom equipment like TETRA, VHF/UHF radio, satellite communications, microwave links.
• Oversee CCTV, PA/GA, access control, intrusion detection, VoIP/PBX, intercom, and video conferencing systems.
• Evaluate vendor proposals, prepare material requisitions, and conduct TBEs.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors and subcontractors to ensure design compliance and timely delivery.
• Participate in FAT, SAT, and commissioning of telecom systems.
• Ensure telecom designs meet ITU, IEC, NEC, IEEE standards and project HSE/ex/requirements.
• Interface with other engineering disciplines for integrated telecom design.
• Support site teams with clarifications, installation supervision, and redlining of as-built documentation.

Responsibilities:

• Shall be responsible for preparation of detailed engineering documents for telecom systems:
• System architecture, block diagrams, technical specifications, data sheets
• Cable routing, Telecom Installation drawing, wiring, schedule termination details
• Shall be responsible for Design of Telecom systems including:
• Fiber optic networks, structured cabling, and LAN/WAN infrastructure
• TETRA, VHF/UHF radio systems, Satellite communications (VSAT), microwave links
• CCTV, PA/GA, access control, and intrusion detection systems, VoIP/PBX, intercom, and video conferencing systems
• Shall be responsible for evaluating vendor proposals, prepare material requisitions (MRs), and conduct technical bid evaluations (TBEs).
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure design compliance and timely delivery of telecom packages.
• Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), and commissioning of telecom systems.
• Shall be responsible for ensuring telecom designs meet relevant international standards (e.g., ITU, IEC, NEC, IEEE) and comply with HSE, Ex, and project-specific requirements.
• Interface with other engineering disciplines (electrical, instrumentation, process, civil) to ensure integrated and clash-free telecom design.
• Shall support site teams with technical clarifications, installation supervision, and redlining of as-built documentation.

Qualifications including Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications engineering with 10 to 20 years of experience
