Job summary

Inn o mech Aerospace Toolings is seeking a Costing & Quotation professional to analyze RFQs, review drawings and material specs, and develop detailed manufacturing cost estimates for aerospace tooling components. The role involves cost breakdowns for raw materials, tooling, processes, and subcontracting, with an emphasis on accuracy and competitive pricing.

Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing detailed manufacturing cost estimates for aerospace/precision components.
  • Understanding of GD&T, tolerances, materials, inspections and metrology.
  • Ability to convert cost data into competitive customer quotations and should-cost analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Review RFQs, drawings and specifications to capture scope and risks.
  • Estimate raw material, tooling, machining, fixtures, tooling and subcontracting costs.
  • Develop process routes and cycle-time estimates; validate with production teams.
  • Prepare should-cost and perform value engineering for cost reductions.
  • Manage quotations lifecycle from receipt to submission with proper documentation.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

1. RFQ & Drawing Analysis

  • Review customer RFQs, engineering drawings, 3D models, BOMs and technical specifications.
  • Understand GD&T, dimensional tolerances, surface finish, material specifications and inspection requirements.
  • Identify critical-to-quality and critical-to-manufacture features.
  • Clarify technical requirements with customers and internal engineering teams.
  • Identify missing information, assumptions and commercial/technical risks before quotation.

2. Manufacturing Cost Estimation

Prepare detailed cost estimates covering:

  • Raw material and material wastage
  • CNC turning, milling and 3/4/5-axis machining
  • Grinding, lapping and polishing
  • EDM and other precision processes
  • Machine setup and programming
  • Cycle-time estimation
  • Cutting tools and consumables
  • Fixtures, tooling and gauges
  • Special processes and subcontracting
  • Cleaning and contamination-control requirements
  • Inspection and metrology
  • Packaging and transportation
  • Rejection/scrap and process-risk allowances
  • Manufacturing overheads

3. Process & Cycle-Time Estimation

  • Develop/validate manufacturing process routes for components.
  • Estimate setup time, machining time, inspection time and overall manufacturing lead time.
  • Work with production and process engineering teams to validate cycle-time assumptions.
  • Benchmark estimated cycle times against historical production data.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction.

4. Material Costing

  • Analyse material specifications and required material grades.
  • Obtain and validate current material prices.
  • Calculate net weight, gross weight, buy-to-fly ratio and material utilization.
  • Consider material certificates, traceability and customer-specific material requirements.
  • Maintain historical material cost databases.

5. Tooling & NRE Costing

  • Estimate tooling, fixtures, gauges and programming costs.
  • Prepare NRE/tooling cost for new products and development projects.
  • Evaluate tooling amortization based on expected volumes.
  • Coordinate with tooling/process engineering teams for technically feasible solutions.

6. Special Process & Inspection Costing

Estimate costs associated with:

  • Heat treatment
  • Anodizing, plating and coating
  • Passivation
  • Shot blasting/peening
  • NDT
  • Surface finishing
  • Vacuum/precision cleaning
  • CMM inspection
  • Special testing and validation
  • Third-party inspection/certification

7. Pricing & Commercial Analysis

  • Convert detailed manufacturing cost into a customer quotation.
  • Apply appropriate overhead, contingency and profit margins.
  • Prepare should-cost and target-cost analysis.
  • Conduct cost benchmarking against previous projects and market conditions.
  • Analyse customer target prices and identify cost gaps.
  • Support price negotiations with detailed cost justification.
  • Evaluate the impact of volume, batch size and annual demand on piece price.

8. Quotation Management

  • Manage RFQs from receipt through quotation submission.
  • Ensure quotations are accurate, competitive and submitted within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain quotation history and costing databases.
  • Track quotation revisions and ensure proper version control.
  • Record assumptions, exclusions, validity, lead time, MOQ and commercial conditions.

9. Cost Reduction & Value Engineering

  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities through:
    • Process optimization
    • Material optimization
    • Cycle-time reduction
    • Tooling optimization
    • Batch-size optimization
    • Make-vs-buy analysis
    • Alternate manufacturing processes
    • Supplier/subcontractor benchmarking
  • Participate in VA/VE and DFM/DFA activities.
  • Support engineering teams in developing cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

10. Cross-Functional Coordination
