Job summary

Safesea Group is seeking a Technical Superintendent to oversee the technical management and maintenance of designated vessels. You will coordinate with crews, ship owners, and stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-efficient operation.

The role requires hands-on expertise in dry docking, maintenance planning, budget control, and regulatory compliance (ISM/ISPS/MARPOL/SOLAS). Strong leadership and communication are essential to lead a multinational team and drive safe performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering.
• COC Class 1 or equivalent seagoing experience preferred.
• 5–10 years in technical management of ships (bulk carriers, tankers, offshore vessels, or containers).
• Strong knowledge of ship repair, dry docking, and maintenance planning.
• Familiar with classification societies, flag state requirements, and international regulations.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in ship management software and MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage maintenance, repairs, and performance of assigned vessels.
• Plan and coordinate dry-docking, major repairs, and schedules within budget.
• Prepare and manage budgets for vessel maintenance and spare parts procurement.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS and class requirements.
• Promote safety and environmental compliance across the fleet.
• Provide technical guidance and training to shipboard staff.
• Conduct vessel inspections and audits for compliance.
• Assist in incident investigations with reports and recommendations.
• Oversee procurement and inventory of spare parts and stores.
• Maintain records of vessel performance and maintenance schedules.

The Technical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the technical management and maintenance of assigned vessels, ensuring their safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation. The role requires close coordination with vessel crews, ship owners, and relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with international regulations, class requirements, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Vessel Maintenance & Performance:Monitor and manage the maintenance, repairs, and overall technical performance of assigned vessels.
• Dry Docking & Repairs:Plan, supervise, and coordinate dry-docking, major repairs, and maintenance schedules within budget and timeline.
• Budget Management:Prepare and manage operational budgets for vessel maintenance, repairs, and procurement of spare parts.
• Regulatory Compliance:Ensure vessels comply with international maritime regulations (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS, etc.), class requirements, and company policies.
• Safety & Environmental Compliance:Ensure strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations and promote a culture of safety within the fleet.
• Crew Support & Training:Provide technical guidance and support to shipboard staff and ensure adequate training on new technologies and regulatory requirements.
• Inspections & Audits:Conduct regular vessel inspections and audits to ensure technical integrity and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Incident Investigation:Assist in the investigation of technical incidents and accidents, providing reports and recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Procurement & Inventory Management:Oversee procurement of spare parts, lubricants, and stores, ensuring cost-effective and timely supply.
• Reporting:Maintain accurate records of vessel performance, technical incidents, and maintenance schedules, providing reports to management as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering.
• Chief Engineer (COC Class 1) or equivalent seagoing experience preferred.
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in technical management of ships, preferably in bulk carriers, tankers, offshore vessels, or container ships.
• Strong knowledge of ship repair, dry docking, and maintenance planning.
• Familiarity with classification societies, flag state requirements, and international maritime regulations.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in using ship management software and MS Office applications.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

• Experience in managing a fleet of vessels and working with multinational crew and stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills for budget and cost control.
• Willingness to travel for ship inspections and attend dry dockings.
