Job summary

Biocon in Bengaluru seeks an experienced techno-commercial sourcing leader to identify and qualify suppliers for APIs, intermediates, and raw materials. You will collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, RA, and Supply Chain to optimize costs, mitigate risks, and ensure continuity of supply.

The role requires deep experience in pharma sourcing, technology transfer, and vendor management, with strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Strategic sourcing for APIs intermediates, raw materials, reagents and solvents.
  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop suppliers.
  • Cost optimization and supply-risk management.
  • Coordinate with CMC/Regulatory Affairs and Quality for audits and filings.
  • Lead techno-commercial evaluations, assess scale-up readiness and risks.
  • Develop should-cost models and cost breakdowns for manufacturing.
  • Onboard new suppliers and monitor vendor performance.
  • Conduct market intelligence for cost-effective processes.
  • Maintain integrity and confidentiality of sensitive IP and data.
  • Partner with R&D/MSAT/Quality/RA for NPI and tech transfer readiness.

Job description

The role combines strong technical knowledge with commercial expertise to identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop reliable suppliers while ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, competitive cost, and continuity of supply. Working closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Supply Chain, the position supports supplier selection, cost optimization, risk mitigation, and long-term supply resilience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic sourcing for APIs intermediates, and key raw materials, Key reagents and solvents
  • Supplier identification, technical evaluation, qualification, and development
  • Cost optimization, and supply-risk management
  • Required qualifications, technical competencies, experience, and leadership capabilities
  • Coordinate with CMC/Regulatory Affairs and Quality to collect and review supplier documentation to support VQ, Vendor audits and Regulatory Filings (e.g., DMF/ASMF support packs), and compliance expectations.
  • Lead techno-commercial evaluations: review process routes, specs/CoA requirements, analytical methods, and manufacturing capabilities; assess scale-up/tech transfer readiness and risks
  • Develop and maintain should-cost models, clean sheets, and cost breakdowns for pharma manufacturing processes (including solvent/raw-material indexing) to support fact-based negotiations.
  • Evaluate, and onboard new suppliers/alternate vendor; manage vendor performance based on technical capability, quality, Compliance, and cost metrics.
  • Conduct market intelligence to identify cost effective manufacturing processes and technical evaluation for feasibility and onboarding.
  • Ensure high standards of integrity and confidentiality while managing sensitive IP and regulatory information.
  • Partner with R&D/MSAT/Quality/RA for NPI and tech transfer: supplier onboarding, sample management, trial orders, and readiness for PPQ/validation activities (as applicable).
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, BE in Chemical Engineering, M. Pharmacy, or a related discipline.
  • 10 to 16+ years of experience in techno-commercial roles across pharma strategic sourcing, R&D Development, MSAT, Operational excellence, Technology Transfer, Vendor Management within regulated environments.
