Job summary
NowPurchase is seeking a Technical Research & Product Innovation Engineer in Kolkata. You will research raw materials and manufacturing practices, review scientific literature, and collaborate with academic and industry partners to develop new products for the Indian market.
The role involves coordinating with internal teams, performing trials, and preparing technical documentation to support commercialization. 4–6 years of relevant experience is expected.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science.
- 4–6 years of experience in research and development, product development or related fields.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy and materials science; ability to read and interpret scientific literature.
Responsibilities
- Research emerging raw materials, technologies, and manufacturing practices used in foundries globally.
- Read and analyze research papers, patents, and journals to identify new product opportunities.
- Collaborate with IITs, IISc, NITs and international labs on technical projects.
- Work with global suppliers to develop and customize new products for the Indian market.
- Support laboratory evaluations, trials, product validation, and troubleshooting.
- Prepare technical reports, literature reviews, and trial protocols.
- Track global technology trends and recommend new product categories.
- Coordinate with internal teams during product development and launch.

- Read and analyze research papers, patents, conference proceedings, technical journals, and industry publications to identify new product opportunities.
- Collaborate with IITs, IISc, NITs, international universities, research laboratories, and industry organizations on technical projects and product development.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to develop and customize new products for the Indian market.
- Support laboratory evaluations, industrial trials, product validation, and technical troubleshooting.
- Prepare technical reports, literature reviews, product specifications, trial protocols, and technical documentation.
- Track global technology trends and recommend new product categories for commercialization.
- Coordinate with internal Category Development, Procurement, Sales, and Operations teams during product development and launch.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2 to 6 years of experience in Research & Development, Product Development, Materials Research, Foundry, Steel, Ferro Alloys, Refractories, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy and materials science.
- Ability to understand and interpret scientific literature and patents.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong curiosity and willingness to learn.
- Ability to interact with professors, researchers, laboratories, suppliers, and customers.
- Familiarity with characterization techniques such as XRF, XRD, SEM, ICP-OES, Optical Microscopy, Carbon/Sulfur Analysis, and Thermal Analysis will be an added advantage, but not necessary.
We are looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems, is passionate about research, and wants to build products that do not yet exist. The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable reading scientific literature, engaging with research institutions, collaborating with global suppliers, and translating technical innovation into commercially viable products for the foundry industry.
