Job summary

Landis+Gyr is seeking an experienced PL/SQL and Java Developer to join our software engineering team in India. The role covers design, development, review, documentation, testing, support, and team management as needed.

You will own end-to-end lifecycle, optimize Oracle SQL/PLSQL, build Java backend components, and collaborate with analysts to design robust database solutions. Familiarity with Unix/Linux, Python, and SOA/web services is valued.

Qualifications

• 6-8 years of hands-on experience with Oracle technologies in enterprise apps.
• Strong PL/SQL programming covering packages, procedures, functions, and triggers.
• Hands-on SQL performance tuning with execution plans and AWR/ASH analysis.
• Experience with Oracle partitions, external tables, SQL*Loader, and bulk processing.
• Basic Python scripting and Unix/Linux environment familiarity.
• Good understanding of Oracle DB architecture and optimizer concepts.
• Experience building enterprise Java applications with backend services and SOA/web services.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the full software development lifecycle—design, develop, review, document, test, and production support.
• Develop and optimize PL/SQL procedures, functions, packages, and triggers for large-scale apps.
• Build and maintain Java backend components across the full technology stack.

About The Role

This role has responsibility forPLSQL and Java Developerand expected to work in all areas of software engineering (design, implement, review, document, test, support) and Team Management as the demand dictates.

Areas of Responsibility / Tasks

• Take end-to-end ownership of thesoftware development lifecycle, includingdesign, development, code review, documentation, testing, and production supportas per project requirements. Design, develop, and optimizePL/SQL procedures, functions, packages, and triggersto support large-scale enterprise applications. Work withOracle databasesto build efficient and scalabledata-driven solutions, ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Perform SQL and PL/SQL performance tuning by analyzing execution plans, AWR reports, SQL Trace, and Oracle performance statistics to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Develop and maintain Java-based backend components and contribute to application enhancements across the full technology stack.

• Work with Oracle database objects including partitions, indexes, external tables, SQL*Loader (SQLLDR), collections, and analytic functions to build scalable and high‑performing database solutions.
• Participate in troubleshooting complex production issues involving Java applications, Oracle databases, and Unix/Linux environments.
• Develop or enhance Unix Shell scripts and Python Scripts to support deployment, automation, and batch processing activities.
• Develop and maintain Java-based backend components and contribute to application enhancements across the full technology stack. Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders toanalyze requirementsand contribute to thedesign of robust database solutions. Prepare and maintaintechnical documentation, including data models, process flows, and system architecture for both new and existing database systems. Performunit testingof PL/SQL code, interpretfunctional specifications, and provide accurateeffort estimationsto meet delivery timelines.
• Set up and maintaindevelopment and test environments, including database configurations and performance tuning.
• Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of assigned tasks, with a strong focus ondata integrity, performance, and scalability.
• Follow establishedcoding standards, documentation practices, version control procedures, and participate incode reviews.
• Stay updated with the latestOracle features, tools, and best practices, and apply them to improve development efficiency.
• Exhibit aproactive approach, strong attention to detail, and a high level ofaccountability and ownershipin all assigned work.

Technical Competencies

• 6-8 yearsof hands‑on experience in thedevelopment and deploymentofenterprise-level, datacentric applicationsusing Oracle technologies.
• Strong expertise in Oracle PL/SQL programming, including development of packages, procedures, functions, triggers, indexes, collections, and advanced SQL programming.
• Hands‑on experience in SQL performance tuning, PL/SQL optimization, execution plan analysis, SQL Trace, and Oracle AWR/ASH report analysis.
• Experience working with Oracle partitions, analytic functions, external tables, SQL*Loader (SQLLDR), and bulk processing techniques.
• Basic understanding of Python scripting.
• Strong understanding of Oracle Database Architecture and Oracle optimizer concepts.
• Experience in building and maintaining enterprise Java applications with a focus on backend services, database integration, and multi‑tier architectures. Familiarity withservice‑oriented architectures (SOA)and integration usingweb services (SOAP/REST).

Good to have

• Familiarity withAgile/Scrum methodologiesand tools likeJiraandConfluence.
• Proficient inSQLand comfortable working withPostgreSQLor other RDBMS platforms as secondary skills
• Exposure toJava-based environmentsis a plus, particularly for understanding application‑database interaction.
