Job summary

Randstad is seeking a Senior Software Architect to design and evolve systems powering the end-to-end rental lifecycle, across reservations, pricing engines, fleet allocation, and identity services. You will lead architecture discussions, review designs, and ensure alignment across distributed teams.

You will mentor engineers, guide DevOps adoption, and push cloud-native, microservices-based, event-driven architectures with a focus on observability, security, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• 10–15+ years of experience in software engineering and architecture.
• Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and backend architectures.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP acceptable).
• Familiarity with frontend and mobile integration patterns (React, React Native).
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD, containers (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, Zero Trust).
• AI practitioner, AI-aware, and enthusiastic about applying AI in architecture and modernization.

Responsibilities

• Define and own end-to-end architecture across Rental and Digital platforms, including backend services, APIs, and frontend integrations.
• Design cloud-native architectures using microservices, serverless patterns, and distributed systems.
• Establish and govern API-first design principles and integration patterns (REST, GraphQL, event streaming).
• Drive adoption of event-driven architecture (Kafka or equivalent) to enable scalable, loosely coupled systems.
• Lead architecture for platform capabilities including: Reservations/booking, pricing/rules engines, fleet and identity, and mobile/web experiences.
• Ensure systems are highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, and performance-oriented.
• Define standards for security, compliance, and data governance across platforms.
• Collaborate with engineering teams via design/code reviews and provide technical guidance.
• Promote DevOps practices: CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability tooling.
• Evaluate new technologies aligned with platform strategy and enterprise architecture.

Job description

A Day in the Life

In this role, you will design and evolve systems that power the end-to-end rental lifecycleincluding reservations, pricing engines, fleet allocation, counter workflows, customer identity, and mobile booking journeys. You will work across a highly distributed environment supporting multi-brand, multi-country, and franchise operations with complex regulatory and operational requirements.

Your day will involve working closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations teams to translate business needs into scalable, resilient, and secure system designs. You will lead architecture discussions, review designs and code, define API contracts, and ensure alignment across multiple engineering teams.

You will play a key role in modernizing legacy systems into cloud-native, microservices-based, and event-driven architectures, ensuring high availability, performance, and extensibility. You will also guide teams on adopting best practices around observability, fault tolerance, and CI/CD pipelines.

A significant portion of your time will be spent mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions, and ensuring consistency across platform architecture, while balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term strategic goals.

What You Will Do

• Ensure systems are designed for high availability, scalability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization
• Define standards for security, compliance, and data governance across platforms
• Collaborate with engineering teams through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on technical guidance
• Guide adoption of DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability tools
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and tools aligned with platform strategy
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture to align with broader technology strategy and shared services
• Leverage and promote AI-enabled development, automation, and intelligent system design practices

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 10–15+ years of experience in software engineering and architecture
• Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems
• Strong expertise in:
