Job summary

PI Industries Ltd. is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer (Junior level) for Vadodara to drive mechanical design and detailed engineering across process equipment, piping, and utilities.

You will coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams, review drawings, and ensure compliance with safety and standards, while supporting project execution and site activities. The role requires 4–8 years of engineering experience and a strong background in mechanical equipment design, piping layouts, and safety

Qualifications

  • B.Tech/M.Tech – Mechanical Engineering from Institutes of repute like IIT/NIT.
  • 4-8 years of engineering experience.
  • Experience In Brownfield & Greenfield Projects Is Preferred.
  • Industry to be Hired from Agro-Pharma-Fine-Chemicals.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical equipment design, Package items & selection.

Responsibilities

  • Design, detailed engineering, review, and implementation support of mechanical systems including process equipment, piping, utilities, and material handling.
  • Review and approval of Equipment GA drawings, Fabrication drawings, Nozzle orientation drawings.
  • Prepare Mechanical equipment specifications and RFQs and conduct technical bid evaluations (TBE).
  • Review Piping Engineering & Layout including 3D model/2D drawings, GA and isometric drawings.
  • Prepare Line list, MTO, and BOM; ensure designs meet process safety and compliance.
  • Support HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and safety reviews from mechanical perspective.

Position Title: – Lead Mechanical Engineer

Level: Junior level

Reporting To: Lead Detailed Engineering

Position Purpose
  • The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for design, detailed engineering, review, and implementation support of mechanical systems, including process equipment, piping, utilities, and material handling systems, ensuring compliance with process safety, statutory requirements, and company engineering standards.
Strategic Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the long‑term engineering and project strategy of the organization by ensuring mechanical designs support plant reliability, scalability, and future expansion.
  • Support standardization of mechanical equipment, piping specifications, and engineering practices to improve efficiency, reduce lifecycle costs, and enhance operational consistency across sites.
  • Support development and implementation of engineering best practices, design guidelines, and lessons‑learned databases.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed mechanical engineering co-ordination and review for: all type of Static and Rotary equipment.
  • Review and approval of Equipment GA drawings, Fabrication drawings, Nozzle orientation drawings.
  • Preparation of Mechanical equipment specifications and RFQs and technical bid evaluations (TBE) for process Equipment & Package Engineering
  • Review of Piping Engineering & Layout -Piping layouts (3D model / 2D drawings), Piping GA and isometric drawings,
  • Preparation of Line list, MTO, and BOM
  • Ensure designs meet process, safety, operability, and maintainability requirements.
  • Knowledge of all Codes, Standards & Compliance and Ensure that all drawings, technical specifications, floor plans meet statutory regulations and various government compliance requirements.
  • Support HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and safety reviews from mechanical perspective.
  • Prepare Budget and capex
  • Work closely with: Process Engineering, Civil & Structural, Electrical & Instrumentation, Project execution and Project Management and ensure adherence to project schedule.
  • Coordinate to obtain additional design support from external experts/design consultants
  • Participate in design review meetings and model review sessions
  • Construction & Site Support - Provide engineering support during execution, punch list closure and handover documentation.
  • Frequently visit to Project site to resolve the engineering related queries.
  • Documentation & Quality - Maintain complete engineering documentation including: Design calculations, Equipment dossiers, As built drawings, Follow PI Industries’ engineering practices, QA/QC procedures, and document control systems.
Financial Responsibilities
  • Ensure cost‑effective mechanical designs by optimizing equipment selection, piping layouts, materials, and specifications without compromising safety, quality, or statutory compliance.
  • Support preparation and review of project cost estimates, BOQs, MTOs, and budgets related to mechanical engineering scope.
  • Participate in technical bid evaluations (TBE) to assess vendor proposals from a cost‑technical perspective and recommend economically viable solutions.
  • Monitor and control engineering‑related cost impacts arising from design changes, scope variations, and vendor deviations.
  • Minimize rework and cost overruns by ensuring accuracy and completeness of detailed engineering deliverables.
  • Provide timely inputs to procurement and project teams to support value engineering, standardization, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Assist project managers in evaluating cost implications of design alternatives, construction methodologies, and schedule constraints.
  • Ensure compliance with approved budgets and company financial policies within the assigned engineering scope.
People Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary engineering team, contributing mechanical expertise to achieve overall project and organizational objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, designers, and drafting personnel to ensure quality and consistency in engineering deliverables.
  • Review work performed by team members and vendors to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders and support a culture of teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of assigned engineering activities and demonstrate accountability for timelines, quality, and safety.
  • Support project leaders and managers by providing timely technical inputs and assisting in resource planning and task prioritization when required.
  • Promote and comply with EHS, quality, and ethical standards, setting a positive example within the team.
  • Participate in training programs and actively contribute to the development of departmental engineering capabilities and best practices.

Education Qualification
