Job summary

Convate Consultancy Services is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Lead to oversee the mechanical scope of the Harihar facility projects, from design and procurement through fabrication, installation and commissioning.

You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, ensure compliance with codes and quality standards, and deliver on time and within budget while integrating mechanical systems into plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in design, engineering, fabrication, and testing of static and process equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with piping fabrication, installation, and isometrics.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards and QA/QC for mechanical projects.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design engineering and manufacturing activities for large mechanical projects.
  • Oversee piping fabrication, erection, and testing.
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and OEMs.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and compliance throughout.
  • Plan, schedule, and monitor project execution from design to handover.

Job description

Role & respon
Job Purpose:

To lead and manage all mechanical aspects of greenfield, brownfield, and expansion projects at the 150 TPD Harihar facility, ensuring successful execution from design and engineering through procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and handover. The role is responsible for delivering projects safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and quality requirements. The position also provides strategic technical leadership, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, and ensures seamless integration of mechanical systems into overall plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

a. Design Engineering and Manufacturing-

The candidate should have a good experience and knowledge of Design, Engineering, manufacturing, inspection and testing of

i. Static Equipment like Metallic (CS and SS) and non-metallic (FRP) tanks, vessels and other static equipment. The incumbent should be conversant with latest version of relevant national/ international standards/ codes and practices.

ii. Rotary Equipment like- different kind of pumps, Fans/ Blowers, Compressors, Dryers, chillers, AHUS, EOT Cranes & Hoists, Conveyors & Feeders,

iii. Process Equipment like- Evaporators, Absorbers, Dissolvers/Blenders, Mixing Equipment

iv. ETP, WTP

v. Firefighting and HVAC equipment

vi. Exposure / Experience in VSF / Excel Fibre plants will be and added advantage

b. Piping Fabrication and Installation-

i. Should be proficient in studying and analysing P&IDs and Piping isometrics.

ii. Derive MTOs from isometrics

iii. Should have sound experience in fabrication, installation and testing of metallic (CS and SS) and non-metallic (FRP) piping and piping supports

c. Structural fabrication and Erection

d. Sound experience in welding methods, practices, tests, surface preparation and painting

e. Equipment Installation, levelling, alignment, testing, trail runs, pre-commissioning and commissioning

f. Coordination with external agencies like- Engineering Consultant, Equipment and component suppliers, OEMS, Construction Partners

Interdisciplinary coordination for smooth project execution, handover and takeover etc sibilities

Key Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, utilities, and maintenance best practices.
  • Proficient in project planning tools and maintenance software (e.g., SAP PM, CMMS).
  • Good understanding of safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Budgeting and cost control proficiency.
Desirable Attributes:
  • Exposure to ISO, OHSAS, or other quality systems.
  • Hands-on experience in TPM, RCM, or condition monitoring systems.
  • Ability to manage contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams effectively.
