Job Purpose

We are looking for an experienced Substation Design Engineer for our Renewable Energy Projects (ISTS/Captive) with 6-10 years of experience. The candidate will be responsible for the design and engineering of EHV Substations up to 400kV for solar and wind projects. The role requires a strong background in substation electrical design, Primary & Secondary engg., detailed engineering, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to ensure timely and compliant project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Site Assessment:
  • Lead the front‑end, preliminary, and detailed design of EHV substations for renewable energy projects (Solar PV/Wind).
  • Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), layout plans, AC & DC SLDs, and detailed engineering documents for substations.
  • Proficient in primary and secondary engg. of 400kV Substation.
  • Conduct electrical calculations for earthing systems, lightning protection, illumination design, SCF, Conductor Sizing and other critical substation components sizing calculation.
  • Prepare RFPs for EHV substations (ISTS/Captive Renewable EPC Packages).
  • Conduct in‑depth GIS/AIS substation design up to 400kV, including equipment sizing, layout design, and auxiliary system design.
  • Perform engineering calculations for battery sizing, CT & VT sizing, MV & LT cables, auxiliary transformer sizing, etc.
  • Review and finalize technical documentation such as Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical data sheets.
  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve technical queries and review equipment specifications.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure all substation engineering designs comply with local, state, and CTU regulations and relevant codes.
  • Work closely with regulatory authorities to secure necessary permits and approvals for substation construction by preparing and submitting relevant drawings.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, civil, structural, and other engineering disciplines to integrate substation designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
  • Work with project management to coordinate interdisciplinary efforts and address challenges that arise during project execution.
  • Develop and implement electrical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the project and construction teams to follow.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Oversee quality assurance processes for EHV substation engineering deliverables, ensuring designs meet industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular design reviews and audits to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Factory Assessment for OEM/Vendor evaluation pertains to Substation.
  • Project Oversight:
  • Assist in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting for EHV substation engineering activities.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement strategies to mitigate issues during the design and execution phases.

  • Improve the cycle time of substation engineering and design deliverables.
  • Contribute to cost and resource optimization while maintaining quality.
  • Stay updated on evolving technology and design practices to enhance substation performance.
  • Ensure efficient coordination between design, procurement, and construction teams for timely project execution.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 6-10 years in substation design for renewable energy projects, preferably in solar/wind energy.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in GIS/AIS substation design (Primary & Secondry) up to 400kV.
  • Experience in electrical calculations for substation components (battery sizing, conductor sizing, surge impedance, etc.).
  • Familiarity with CBIP/IS/IEC/CEA standards and regulations.
  • Expertise in design software and engineering tools.
Skills Required
  • Strong knowledge in Substation Design for renewable energy projects.
  • Experience with GIS and AIS Substations up to 400kV.
  • Proficiency in detailed engineering (SLD, layout, earthing, etc.).
  • Ability to manage and execute RFP preparation, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for cross‑functional collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
  • Leadership qualities to implement and ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk mitigation in EPC projects.
  • Hands on experience in Secondary Engg. of Substation including CRP, Schematics, Logis, Interlocks, Cable schedule, Protection & Metering schemes is an added advantage.
  • Site Commissioning, FTC, Trail Run support is required.
  • Power Transformer, SVG & Harmonic Filter understanding is required.
