Responsibilities
- Design UAV airframes using analytical formulations and engineering principles.
- Analyze, validate, and update structural designs using commercial CAE tools.
- Develop and implement plans to meet airframe design objectives.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, project managers, and external vendors to execute airframe development activities.
- Prepare technical documentation for internal records and design reviews.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to fulfill airframe‑subsystem requirements.
- Develop, standardise, and improve processes for all airframe design activities.
- Conduct root cause analysis for structural failures and propose corrective measures.
Must‑Have Skills
- Structural Mechanics: Strength of materials, aircraft structures, composites, vibrations, structural dynamics, aeroelasticity, rigid body dynamics, fatigue, and damage tolerance.
- UAV Airframe Design: Conceptual design of fixed‑wing UAVs, mass estimation, development of primary and secondary airframe members, and first‑order structural analysis.
- CAE & FEA: Propose and execute linear, nonlinear, transient, vibration, and fatigue analyses to validate structural behaviour.
- Optimization: Multi‑disciplinary systems and structural member optimisation using computational methods.
- Materials & Manufacturing: Design process for composite and metallic structures, including part concepts, quality metrics, drafting (GD&T), manufacturing, structural testing, and iterative design feedback.
- Design Planning: Plan design activities and proofs of concept to meet part and mechanism functionalities through multi‑stage processes.
- Engineering Practices: Engineering change management (PDM), FMEA, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Teamwork & Leadership: Review design documents, mentor junior engineers, and delegate tasks while contributing individually.
- Tools & Software: MATLAB (advanced), Fortran/Python/C++, SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS.
- Additional Requirements: Experience in end‑to‑end structural design, aero‑modelling, and hands‑on hardware projects in mechanical systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's in Aerospace/Aeronautical/Mechanical engineering with a minimum of 5‑8 years of experience.
