Summary: As a Mechanical Integrity and Lifing Engineer will be responsible for the structural analysis of a variety of Critical Part components, ranging from Fan discs, Compressor discs, blisks & drums, Turbine discs & cover plates as well as Mainline Shafts and Stub-Shafts. These components are subject to some of the most severe and complex loading conditions found in any engineering field, and they are designed and analysed with high fidelity against highly demanding safe life requirements.

What you’ll be doing: This role will offer you multiple interfaces with a wide range of other areas including Component Design teams, Design Integration teams, Engine Project teams, Engine Development teams, Services & Life Cycle Engineering teams, Materials teams, Manufacturing teams and Repair & Overhaul teams.

  • To conduct mechanical integrity, stress and lifing assessments using finite element analysis and other numerical models.
  • To specify and conduct mechanical experiments, for the purpose of underwriting designs, and validating analytical or empirical models.
  • Also, you will identify root cause and resolve problems through evaluative judgements and analysis.
  • To deliver against programme milestones within agreed cost, timescale and quality requirements.
  • To be a point of contact between the mechanical integrity discipline and other functions and customers.

Proficient in the use of 2D & 3D finite element stress analysis tools (e.g. SC03/ Abaqus/ ANSYS/ NASTRAN) – in elastic, inelastic, thermal-mechanical, contact and frictional assessments.

Knowledge and experience of product integrity, liability and aerospace certification frameworks.

Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and have an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition.
