Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Bengaluru, India, seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead scalable DBaaS backend services using Go, Kubernetes, and cloud-native tech.

Qualifications

We're looking for engineers who are passionate about building features that customers and fellow engineers will love for the company's Managed Databases platform. The DBaaS team designs, builds, and operates the services and infrastructure that power the company's Database-as-a-Service offerings. From customer-facing APIs to the automation that provisions, upgrades, monitors, and maintains databases, we own the complete database lifecycle.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership while building highly scalable, resilient database platform services that support our growing global customer base. This role reports to the Senior Engineering Manager within the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) organization.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and enhance customer-facing Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) products.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient backend services.
  • Own end-to-end technical solutions, from architecture and design through deployment and production support.
  • Lead the technical direction of complex engineering initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Build and operate globally distributed cloud services running on Kubernetes.
  • Develop backend services and APIs using Go (Golang), REST, and gRPC.
  • Design reliable automation for database provisioning, upgrades, backups, recovery, and lifecycle management.
  • Improve system scalability, availability, performance, observability, and reliability.
  • Author, review, and drive technical design documentation and architectural decisions.
  • Perform code reviews and champion engineering best practices, testing, and code quality.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide last-line support for DBaaS services.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Operations teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Build integrations across the company platform using cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, Temporal, Grafana, REST, and gRPC.
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
What You'll Add to the company
  • Deep expertise in MySQL administration, performance tuning, optimisation, troubleshooting, and replication.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platforms.
  • Strong understanding of database lifecycle management, automation, backup, recovery, and upgrades.
  • Extensive experience developing high-performance backend systems using Go (Golang).
  • Expertise in designing and developing RESTful APIs and gRPC services.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and microservices.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and modern cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL technologies, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, OpenSearch, and caching platforms.
  • Strong architectural design skills with experience making technical decisions for large-scale systems.
  • Passion for reliability engineering, observability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Experience building highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable production services.
  • Strong debugging, performance optimisation, and incident management skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and raise engineering standards.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Passion for building reliable, maintainable, and customer-focused cloud platform services.
