Job summary

SOLARA is a fast-growing D2C home and kitchen brand building India-based sourcing and in-house product development. The Head of Sourcing will own end-to-end sourcing, develop an India supplier network, and drive cost, quality, and speed-to-market for cookware, appliances, and drinkware.

You will work closely with the founder, category and operations, reporting directly to the CEO, and help scale supplier capabilities as the company grows.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in sourcing/procurement in home/kitchen categories.
• Strong network of Indian suppliers and manufacturers.
• Proven new product development experience from idea to shelf.
• Sharp commercial and negotiation skills with cost reduction track record.
• Hands-on quality and BIS/compliance knowledge.
• D2C or consumer-brand experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel frequently across India.

About SOLARA

SOLARA is a fast-growing D2C consumer brand in the home & kitchen space, selling across Amazon, Flipkart, Blinkit, Zepto, and our own Shopify storefront. We design and build products people use every day cookware, small kitchen appliances, and drinkware — and we're scaling rapidly across both marketplace and quick-commerce channels.

We're now investing in India-based sourcing and in-house product development to shorten lead times, improve margins, and own more of our product roadmap. This is a foundational leadership hire to build that capability.

The Role

As Head of Sourcing, you'll own SOLARA's end-to-end sourcing and new product development for the home & kitchen category. You'll build and manage our India supplier network, lead product development from concept to launch, and drive cost, quality, and speed-to-market. You'll work closely with the founder, category, and operations teams and report directly to the CEO.

What You'll Do

• Build the India supplier base — identify, evaluate, onboard, and manage manufacturers and vendors across cookware, small kitchen appliances, and drinkware.
• Lead new product development (NPD) — take products from concept and benchmarking through samples, tooling, costing, and production, working with suppliers and design partners.
• Own cost & margin — negotiate pricing, payment terms, and MOQs; drive cost-down initiatives and target landed-cost improvements vs. imports.
• Manage quality & compliance — set QC standards, manage inspections, and ensure BIS and other regulatory compliance for kitchen and electrical appliance categories.
• Run the sourcing calendar — plan procurement against demand and channel forecasts; manage lead times, inventory risk, and supplier capacity.
• De-risk the supply chain — develop multiple supplier options, reduce dependence on single sources, and balance India vs. import sourcing.
• Build the team & process — establish sourcing SOPs, vendor scorecards, and grow the sourcing function as the company scales.

What You Bring

• 7+ years in sourcing / procurement / product development in the home, kitchen, cookware, kitchen appliances, or drinkware categories.
• A strong, active network of Indian suppliers and manufacturers in these categories (e.g., cookware clusters, appliance OEMs, glass/steel/plastic drinkware makers).
• Proven new product development experience — you've taken products from idea to shelf, not just placed purchase orders.
• Sharp commercial and negotiation skills — a track record of cost reduction, margin improvement, and favorable supplier terms.
• Hands-on quality and compliance know-how — sampling, inspections, factory audits, and familiarity with BIS / relevant standards.
• D2C, e-commerce, or consumer brand experience preferred — comfort with fast cycles, marketplace/quick-commerce demands, and a build-fast culture.
• Willingness to travel frequently to supplier locations across India.

Nice to Have

• Existing relationships with overseas (China) suppliers, to manage a hybrid India + import sourcing strategy.
• Experience setting up private-label or own-brand product lines from scratch.
• Background working with a startup or scaling brand.
